Why Do They Hate Sarah?

When Senator John McCain chose Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice-Presidential nominee, the political world was taken by surprise. Since that day last year, Palin has been creating a lot of attention for herself.

Accomplishments in Alaska, such as pioneering a new natural gas pipeline that could reduce costs is ignored. Taking on oil companies who were squeezing Alaska, ignored. Taking on corruption within her own party, ignored.

So why would they hate her?

1. McCain's announcement took the political world by surprise. Democratic activists expected Romney and had all of their attack points set. When Palin was picked instead, a bizarre barrage of attacks came in many directions. Instead of a smooth, coherent message, much of them were personal attacks and attacks on her family.

2. Alaska is a rural state. With no cities over 100,000, Alaska is one of the smallest-populated states. Many elites in the democratic establishment criticized her from their urban centers-- New York, Chicago, and San Francisco. The life of people in the countryside is almost unknown and looked down upon. Palin was painted as a hick because her town was smaller than a city council district in New York.

3. Palin's inexperience. Palin was serving her first term as Alaska governor, and even with her accomplishments, her resume seemed a little thin. Sound familiar? Almost the same as Barack Obama, except Plain had a few accomplishments. Perhaps this was guilt for supporting a first-term Senator who began running for President while in the Illinois State Senate.

4. Palin's spunk. Palin likes to hit back when attacked. She doesn't shy away from a fight and it can get her negative exposure. Take the David Letterman spat-- in many media quarters she was blamed for the flak over Letterman's joke. In seamless misogynist fashion, Keith Olberman basically said she 'led Letterman on.' When you get up after being knocked down, people like to knock you back down.
