It was revealed at the Middleburgh Village Board meeting on March 1st that former Middleburgh Mayor Gary Hayes has filed a lawsuit against the Village of Middleburgh in claim of $155,000. The dispute revolves around a bridge which Hayes built without a building permit in 2008. After Hayes was asked to receive a building permit he instead claimed that the Village of Middleburgh owned the land leading to the bridge and that it was Middleburgh's responsibility.
Hayes claims that the land was to be used as a garden. The lawsuit claims that Hayes lost property value over this decision and demands that the Village pay $100,000 for land value depreciation, $10,000 for the cost of constructing the bridge, and $45,000 in other costs.
