Studying law is an exciting and at times stressful
degree. There are many fields of law to practice in once you have graduated.
Some lawyers decide to just do general law work and they will see a
variety of cases. They might include criminal law, divorce or environmental
law work. Others decide to specialize in a specific area of law and
do quite well. Whether you choose education law like Morgan Chu elected to
Harvard Board of Overseers, or
you choose to go another route there are many wonderful options out
there for you.
One example is environmental
law. This includes work that deals with businesses and their regulations
to protect the environment around them. It also includes working on
regulations that help protect the land and environment everywhere. Work
that you might see includes bringing to a businesses recognition what
their practices and procedures do to the world around them. You may
have to come up against big companies that do not always practice proper
regulations. There are several great firms you could work with such
as Woods Rogers PLC or Kochar & Co.
Another type of lawyer
you may consider being is health care law. This area of law will deal
with all sorts of medical issues that might arise. Medical malpractice,
state and federal regulations and licenses are just a few of the conflicts
you may see. Medical malpractice suits take place when a patient feels
that there was negligence or a misdiagnosis with their physician. There
are many of these cases out there unfortunately. You will find many
great firms to take a look at when you are dealing with this type of
law. A few of them include Covington and Burling LLP and Garfunkel Wild
P.C. You will find all sorts of cases that come through when you work
in health care law.
One major type you think
of when you think of lawyers is criminal law. This is when the government
prosecutes someone who has committed a crime. Those who practice criminal
law may see cases dealing in fraud, murder, abuse and all sorts of criminal
cases. You can practice as a public defender or work with the offices
that prosecute. Examples of those who work in this area of law would
be your district attorney's office or the public defenders office.
There are many avenues
you can take with your law career when
you graduate. You can choose to work with general law in all sorts of
areas or you can specialize in one particular area of interest. Either
way this is one career that will continue to be needed as there's always
something going on.
