Blagojevich Trial: Blago Guilty on One Count, Mistrial on Others

 Some more breaking news for you as former Illinois Governor Rob Blagojevich was found guilty of lying to federal investigators about allegedly attempting to sell then-Senator Barack Obama's Senate seat.

CHICAGO — A Chicago jury has reached a single, unanimous guilty verdict against former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. He has been convicted of lying to federal agents.

The jury was unable to reach unanimous verdicts on 23 other counts. The judge says he plans to call a mistrial on those remaining counts.
The government tells Chicago's WMAQ-TV that it will "absolutely" retry the case.
Jurors had deliberated for 14 days and earlier Tuesday asked for advice on filling out their verdict forms. They also asked for a copy of the oath they took before deliberating.
Blagojevich had pleaded not guilty to trying to sell or trade President Barack Obama's old Senate seat and leverage the power of his office for personal gain.
His brother, a Nashville, Tenn., businessman, also pleaded not guilty.

Did Obama Know About the Blago Senate Deal?

 This is actually pretty interesting, especially considering I wrote a satirical pice over a year ago to this effect. Apparently the former Governor of Illinois believes that President Obama was in on his attempt to sell his former Senate seat, at least according to things coming out of the Blago trial.

There's a particularly interesting quote here:

"The president understands that the governor would be willing to make the appointment of Valerie Jarrett as long as he gets what he's asked for. . . . The governor gets the Cabinet appointment he's asked for," Harris said, explaining a recorded call.

Jarrett is one of Obama's closest advisers. Having her in the Senate would have pushed through Obama's agenda a lot easier than the corrupt Roland Burris. The main question here is if anything else is going to come out about this.
