Traficant Fights to Stay on Ballot

James Traficant served as a member of Congress for over a decade before being thrown out for corruption in 2002. The Democrat is attempting to make a political comeback of sorts, guesting on news programs proclaiming his innocence. He's also been locked in a battle to run for Congress again, but his road has been rocky. He was kicked off the ballot for not getting enough signatures to run as an independent. Now it seems like he just won't give up:

Traficant, an outspoken former Democratic lawmaker who was released from prison last year after serving time for his 2002 convictions on racketeering, bribery and tax evasion charges, fell 31 signatures short of the required 2,154 signatures to appear on the ballot — or 1 percent of the total number of district voters who participated in the 2006 gubernatorial election.

Traficant is attempting to unseat a fellow Democrat-- a former aide, in fact. Traficant's trial and time in prison have left him a felon, unable to vote for himself in the election.

Blagojevich Trial: Blago Guilty on One Count, Mistrial on Others

 Some more breaking news for you as former Illinois Governor Rob Blagojevich was found guilty of lying to federal investigators about allegedly attempting to sell then-Senator Barack Obama's Senate seat.

CHICAGO — A Chicago jury has reached a single, unanimous guilty verdict against former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. He has been convicted of lying to federal agents.

The jury was unable to reach unanimous verdicts on 23 other counts. The judge says he plans to call a mistrial on those remaining counts.
The government tells Chicago's WMAQ-TV that it will "absolutely" retry the case.
Jurors had deliberated for 14 days and earlier Tuesday asked for advice on filling out their verdict forms. They also asked for a copy of the oath they took before deliberating.
Blagojevich had pleaded not guilty to trying to sell or trade President Barack Obama's old Senate seat and leverage the power of his office for personal gain.
His brother, a Nashville, Tenn., businessman, also pleaded not guilty.

Charlie Rangel Faces Ethics Charges

 Charlie Rangel, the famous New York Congressman long suspected of illegal corruption, has finally been charged with ethics violations regarding unknown instances.

Rangel, a New York Democrat, said he looks forward to the trial. He said Thursday that he's been asking for the opportunity to explain himself to his constituents for two years.

Rangel was chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee until he stepped down in March following criticism from the ethics committee regarding a separate case.

Info is sketchy so far, but it looks like Rangel must have done pretty bad for a Democratic-controlled panel to accuse him of such things.

CT Democratic Senate Candidate Lied About Vietnam Service

A very big hat tip to Hot Air, who turned us on to this astounding story. Even more astounding is that the New York Times broke the story. Blumenthal is looking to succeed the disgraced Democratic Senator Chris Dodd-- and now Blumenthal is looking like an uncertainty in November.

But apparently he's been claiming that he had served in Vietnam in the Marine Corps, but in fact did not even go there.

The New Haven Register on July 20, 2006, described him as “a veteran of the Vietnam War,” and on April 6, 2007, said that the attorney general had “served in the Marines in Vietnam.” On May 26, 2009, The Connecticut Post, a Bridgeport newspaper that is the state’s third-largest daily, described Mr. Blumenthal as “a Vietnam veteran.” The Shelton Weekly reported on May 23, 2008, that Mr. Blumenthal “was met with applause when he spoke about his experience as a Marine sergeant in Vietnam.”

Wow. That's pretty damning. This may unfortunately lead to nutcase Ned Lamont taking the Connecticut primary nod after he was defeated by Senator Joe Lieberman in the 2006 race. Or it could lead to a Republican bump. Too early to say right now.

Breaking: Baucus Nominated Girlfriend for Attorney

Ranking Democrat Max Baucus of Montana has apparently overstepped his legal powers by nominating his girlfriend (or mistress, if you will) for a powerful US Attorney position:

Hanes was one of three names Baucus forwarded to the White House for consideration as Montana’s U.S. attorney. President Barack Obama ultimately tapped one of Baucus’ nominees, Mike Cotter, for the position.

Did Gillibrand Commit Career Suicide?

Yesterday we got the triumphant news that the United States Senate had decided to cut off funds to the "community activist" group ACORN. ACORN, of course is known primarily for organizing voter fraud and assisting in prostitution. It must also be noted that the group played a role in the banking collapse, forcing banks to loan millions in subprime mortgages in order to avoid being called 'racist.'

By an overwhelming, bipartisan vote of 83-7, the Senate barred funding for the group, which has received millions in federal and state funding. Among the yes votes are many prominent liberal Democrats, who may have supported ACORN in the past. Even President Obama once worked for an affiliate of the organization.

Which brings us to Kirsten Gillibrand, who was appointed Senator this year after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton resigned her Senate seat. Appointed by an unpopular governor, she ruffled the feathers of left and right. Left for formerly supporting gun rights and other "right wing" causes and by the Right for abandoning her "core beliefs" once she wanted the Senate seat.

So she comes in with a low approval and now votes in favor of stuffing ACORN with more money. After they committed voter fraud and after these videos have been released.

And now there's word that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani may run against Gillibrand for her Senate seat. If that's the case, she better start making better decisions than giving money to these crooks.

BREAKING-- ACORN Stripped of Funding

Wow-- looks like someone's actually listening. ACORN's in trouble....

The Senate voted to cut off ACORN Housing funds following the release of three videotapes that show employees of the activist group advising a "pimp" and "prostitute" on how to break the law.

The amendment, offered by Nebraska Republican Sen. Mike Johanns, passed in a vote of 83 to 7 and prohibits the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now from receiving funds from the current Transportation and Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill. It marks the third time this year Republicans tried to block the organization from federal funding.

The latest vote comes on the heels of the release of hidden-camera videos showing workers in three separate ACORN housing offices apparently helping a couple posing as a pimp and prostitute evade the IRS and apply for an illegal housing loan for a brothel.

ACORN Housing Corporation received $1.6 million to provide housing services to low-income communities in this fiscal year, ending Sept. 30, according to USASpending.gov, a federal government Web site for tracking government grants.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development Grants has given $8.2 million to ACORN in the years between 2003 and 2006, as well as $1.6 million to ACORN affiliates.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the offices shown in the videos had received any of ACORN's federal grant money for housing services.

Remember All the Talk About Cheney and Halliburton? Obama One-Ups Him

I don't know if any of us 'dumb' Republicans and conservatives can remember, but there was a large uproar regarding the United States giving no-contract bids to Halliburton, which just so happened to have been run by Vice President Dick Cheney.

Sounds fishy? Well, what was conveniently left out is that Cheney owned no stock in the company and that the company's gains wouldn't affect his income.

But what about Obama destroying the "culture of corruption" and making sure that special interests and lobbyists were not a part of the new Washington elite. Well, it appears that that rosy talk was just enough to get him elected. Now that he's in office, it doesn't seem as important.

Take chief adviser David Axelrod. A tough Chicago-type, Axelrod knows how to play hardball politically and financially.

Including landing a sweetheart deal between the White House and a company he just so happened to have been the head of. It also just so happened that Obama's campaign spent over $300 million last year with AKPD Message and Media in which Axelrod led and GMMB Campaign Group which just so happened to have Obama teammate Jim Margolis as a partner. During this time period might I add that Axelrod was the sole shareholder in AKPD!

I can see why you would want to have people you can trust involved in your public relations, but this is downright vulgar.

And now the two firms are profiting further from the Adminstration's health care push. True, Axelrod isn't involved with AKPD anymore, but that comes after his company made money hand over fist last year.

Most transparent administration? If Bush directly used campaign funds to give Halliburton $300 million while Cheney was still CEO, we'd never hear the end of it.

Where is Jon Stewart on Obama's Cronyism?

For months, a false campaign was launched to oust President Bush's second Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez, for the firing of US attorneys. Jon Stewart would launch "jokes" sharply jabbing the AG and the Bush Administration, while Keith Olbermann would should until his face was red about "Mr. Gonzalez."

And, of course, it turns out that the firings were totally legal.

But now we have the case of one of the President's friends being a crook. Kevin Johnson, who ran Americorps and is Mayor of Sacramento is a personal friend of the President. This doesn't imply that the President is, but his action is clearly personally motivated. Obama fired Gerald Walpin, inspector general of the Corporation for National and Community Service, for investigating the misplacement of hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars.

Obama fired Walpin without explanation, a clear attempt to shield his friend from prosecution and to keep himself from looking bad.

Where is Jon Stewart? Will he do his fart-face impression to make fun of President Obama? Will he make a shitty impression, as whe did of President Bush, to prove his illegitimate move? Will Olbermann call on Johnson to "resign"? Will Chris Matthews have a daily piece on the scandal.

Hell, Roland Burris is still in office, despite paying his way to the US Senate!

There is a new culture of corruption, and the Left's phoniness is showing.

The Silent Revolution

No, it's not going to become apparent for most of us anytime soon. No, it's not violent or filled with hate and tales of vengeance.

But it is happening.

Our country is becoming the conservative, small-government nation that we have always known it to be. We are finally beginning to express ourselves.

But how can this be? For months we've been told that a profound shift has brought us to the left, that Barack Obama's election has been a great victory for 'progressivism.'

First, we are becoming a pro-life nation. For the first time in Gallup polling history, a majority of Americans have declared themselves pro-life. Why is this? No one can exactly put their finger on it. Perhaps black Americans, which have the highest rate of abortions in the country, have determined that if Obama can make it in our 'racist' society, so can their children. Or perhaps the country as a whole has tired of the idea that a person can go get pregnant and *poof* get a magical "cure."

In addition, Americans are just not buying the cookie-cutter anti-Bush arguments being proffered by the left. The country is almost evenly split over whether or not the Bush administration was justified in waterboarding two terrorism suspects. A large majority do not believe there should be a criminal investigation regarding it. Many do not buy the idea that transferring terrorists from Guantanamo will make us safer.

Trust in the Democrats also appears to be falling. Many do not believe Nancy Pelosi's rapidly changing tale that she 'did not know' about waterboarding. Instead, she's looking more and more like a liar. Scandals like Blago and Pelosi have helped rebrand the House Speaker's famous phrase, the "culture of corruption."

Even the left's stalwart scare tactic, global warming has lost traction.

While the number of Americans who believe in global warming has dropped, a sizable majority believes it exists: 69 percent in the latest poll, which is down from 82 percent in 2007 and 77 percent in 2005.

Americans have also seen the excesses of spending caused by Obama and realize that this may only be the beginning. Obama has made President Bush look like a spendthrift and we're already over a $1 trillion extra in debt since January 1st.

So what does all this mean? A Republican sweep in 2012? Maybe not. The media's still portraying Obama as our last hope and savior. But this does mean that we're not out of it yet, and since we're underestimated, we still may come out on top.

Oh Snap-- Obama Official Nabbed for Bribery?

Well, first I wanted to make a few things clear. First, it appears that the official is a minor one, and the story is still developing. However, this was supposed to be the most transparant administration in history. However, things are looking a little Nixonesque. Think about it-- tax fraud-- Daschle and... Spiro Agnew. Corruption and not being a crook? Awesome.

But as for the matter at hand: It seemed like a minor security officer working for the President just needed to have $70,000 in his home. And the White House's chief of computers is on leave, as well.

Weird. Not too much has been splashed in the news. If this happened to Bush, it would be front and center, just like those "documents" stating he was AWOL in Vietnam. Good work, media.

Authorities say Acar and Bansal, along with others, defrauded the government through a variety of schemes, including billing the city for items that were never delivered and "ghost" contract employees who did not work. The scheme involved Acar approving falsified bills and splitting the money with vendors including Bansal, who submitted them, court documents alleged.

Bansal, a native of India who turns 42 next week, is a former city employee and the founder and chief executive of Advanced Integrated Technologies Corp. The company has offices in Washington and India and did more than $13 million in business with the District of Columbia government in the past five years, according to court documents.

One contract involved providing computer support for the city's Department of Motor Vehicles. The company also was given a contract to upgrade the city's human resources computer records and sold virus detection software to the city.

Why do I have the feeling that this is just the tip of the iceberg?

Burris Needs to Quit

We here at Jumping in Pools had a firm stand that Roland Burris should not have gotten the Illinois Senate seat given to him by corrupt and shamed former Governor Rod Blagojevich. Despite the fact that Burris was named in corrupt circumstances, he was still allowed in the Senate.

President Obama made a public stand against seating Burris. Then when it appeared that such a stand could be unpopular, he backed down quickly. Other Democrats, fearing the loss of votes (and not credibility) soon dropped their opposition to Burris.

Now it turns out that Senator Burris may have been as corrupt as Blagojevich himself. He has admitted to lying and is now just another crooked politician.

Senator Burris must resign within two weeks. There is no excuse for his lies and corruption. He has shown the United States the worst of our politicians. He has shown us the results of putting popularity in front of integrity. He is a shame to our country and needs to do the honorable thing and resign.

Why is Obama Nominating All of these Crooks? I Have an Answer

Now, not everyone that President Obama has nominated to his cabinet have been terrible people, but it appears that the new President seems to be lax with his personal judgment. He is picking the cadre that will guide executive policy for at least four years.

But for some reason, some of these people are just... off. Geithner, Richardson, and now Daschle are all ethically challenged. Only one of them (Geithner) really has the competence to make up for this flaw. And Nancy Killefer is also withdrawing. And Governor Napolitano of Arizona is unfit for the position of Head of the Department of Homeland Security.

Is President Obama an idiot? Or is his staff incompetent?

Far from it.

President Obama is nominating a bunch of people with checkered pasts. His staff is very good at finding out information and keeping it secret. What may be happening is that President Obama knows that these people, if chosen, would owe him for their position. In turn, they would be subservient to him personally, and not as much to their positions.

Much of his cabinet is now subservient to the President, solidifying his power base. No longer is the executive branch the President advised and assisted by his cabinet, but appears to be transforming into a chamber of nepotism and incompetence.

Even Hillary Clinton factors in. Obama sees her as enemy number one and took her out of her influential position in the Senate. Now, she can't work on her signature issues: health care and women's issues. President Obama is expecting some failures in foreign policy over the next few years. Expect Secretary of State Clinton to be blamed for these. Any successes will be due to 'President Obama's foresight.'

Pay attention, this guy is smarter than you want to believe.

Proof Obama Took Blagojevich Down

Just hours after the impeachment trial of Governor Rod Blagojevich finished with the Governor's removal, there is now word trickling back to WCHC that the Governor was, in fact, innocent of the charges against him.

"It was purely a witch hunt." said retired professor James Yeats of John Marshall Law School. "In fact, of all the 'evidence' arrayed against Governor Blagojevich, half of it was not deemed admissible by the judge."

When asked what this 'inadmissible' evidence was, Dr. Yeats cited recordings from McDonald's drive-throughs and photos of Pete Rose.

"It was a whitewash, pure and simple."

Sources at the State House believe that the real cause of the Governor's removal was simple politics.

"We know that he had a deal with the Senator [Obama] to become the next Secretary of Commerce." said a former aide to the Governor. "And now Obama got elected and neglected his friend. Rod was going to go public with the broken promise along with other things, and the next morning came the accusations."

Further complicating things was the swift call by Obama for Blagojevich, a long time friend, to step down.

"Obama played Rod the way he needed to, and now that he's reached the top he threw him under the bus." the aide continued. "And Rod was willing to do a lot of things for Barack, but the favors were never repayed."

When asked what things the Governor did for the former Illinois Senator, the aide backtracked.

"Governor Blagojevich wishes not to discuss this issue." the aide stated.

Independent research by WCHC found that up to $200,000 in unmarked funds may have been transferred from the Illinois State Treasury directly or indirectly into Obama's 2008 White House bid.

"This is beyond big." said Dr. Yeats. "The President took down a sitting governor of a state. That's the quickest way to tell your political rivals, including Hillary [Clinton], not to fool with you."

Burris Wins Battle for Senate Seat

Roland Burris, who was appointed by disgraced (and now impeached) Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, has been cleared to serve in the United States Senate. This takes place after Democratic leaders refused to pave the way for him.

We've written a little about this ourselves and have a split opinion.
However, there is not a split opinion in the Senate.

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, under investigation for allegations that include seeking to trade Obama's Senate seat for personal favors, surprised Senate Democrats over the holiday break when he appointed Burris to succeed Obama in the Senate.

Senate Democrats, who had worried that any appointee would be tainted by Blagojevich, have been grappling with how to proceed ever since. They rejected Burris last week only to reverse course a day later after Obama himself privately weighed in and senators fretted that the situation was diverting their focus.

Indeed.

As per the Constitution

all a man needs to be is 30 years old, a United States citizen, a citizen of the state and the country for a number of years, to be appointed be a legal Governor and he is a Senator. This is the case of Roland Burris, as Conservatives including myself at first felt - this man should not be allowed into the United States Senate, then it donned on me : according to a Supreme Court ruling & the United States Constitution - Roland Burris is a legal United States Senator.

I suspect corruption.

But I also suspect both Blago & Burris will get an un-welcomed 2010 election cycle.

We need to follow the Constitution, no matter how hard it might be some times.

This is what devines the right from the wrong. Supporting the Constitution even when the appointment smells of dead fish, instead of disgracing in based on ego.

Constitution - seat Roland Burris - that is good enough for me. Until 2010, then I hope the Illinois GOP destroys him.

Dems Likely to Back Burris

One by one the top Democrats fell in line opposing Rod Blagojevich's appointee to the United States Senate. After mocking the Republicans for a 'culture of corruption,' the Democratic Party would take a stand.

Reid
Durbin

Then something happened.... Racial undertones were used comparing the Democratic leadership to segregationists.... then they started to back off. Rod Blagojevich may have been impeached, but his choice for Senate will live on, or so it would appear.

And that brings us to now, which Roland Burris poised to become the junior Senator from the state of Illinois.

Surprising? Talk about doubletalk:

"I started off obviously skeptical, as all of the Democratic members did," Durbin, D-Ill., said on "Face the Nation" on CBS. "But as time has gone on and we've looked closely, we want to be fair to Roland Burris. If he has the proper certification and papers, then we're going to take one look at the process and move forward from there."

Corruption rewarded, even before the next Congress opens.

Burris Aided Blago.... Suprising?

Illinois Senate Appointee Roland Burris apparently aided Governor Rod Blagojevich's election bid in 2006-- in sneaky circumstances.

Just days after Gov. Rod Blagojevich accepted his party's nod for re-election in 2006, a letter arrived at state Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka's office seeking thousands of pages of documents Blagojevich could use as ammunition against her in their upcoming campaign.

The letter was signed by Roland Burris.

It was one of several requests Burris made to the treasurer's office in 2006, a campaign practice known as opposition research in which candidates use public documents to question their opponents' records.

This really can't be too surprising, but it still seems underhanded. Burris helps the Governor, then gets picked for Senate. And didn't just help the governor, but used a legal but dirty trick to gain favor (or just to help him).
