Jumping in Pools is going to write a series of articles discussing how the Republican Party can take either the Presidency or the Congress in 2012. Part One:Principles
For too long both parties have been scrambling for votes instead of focusing on integrity. Not just the integrity of those running for office, but the intellectual integrity of views and a party platform. We, as a party must determine what principles our party is based on and if we are truly willing to follow them, even if we win.
So we must lay down our principles, on which the party will win through integrity or lose in spite of it.
Principle 1: Less government.
We must show the world that government is all-to-often in our way. With the deficit ballooning, we must say that if we put too much faith in the government, we will lose perspective. The government can have a role, but cannot always be overbearing. That is why we must stand against gun control and universal health care. Meddling with health care will not only reduce quality, but will cost billions annually.
Principle 2: Personal Responsibility
The United States was born under the idea of rugged individualism. Each person is responsible, for the most part, of their successes and failures. No longer can people blame the government or society if they cannot get a job or raise a family right. We must realize that culture and government contribute to our lifestyles, but do not constitute it. If the television is offensive, turn it off. If you need more money, ask for a raise or get another job or go back to school. If you have kids, take care of them.
Principle 3: Compassion
By this, I don't mean that we should open up a welfare state. We must make sure that we are able to see things from others' perspective while not being overwhelmed by every detail. We must make sure that we attempt to help small business by allowing taxes to be lower. We must try and help the poor, not through welfare, but by giving to charities that provide them an education or a real job. We must realize that we're all in this together, and if we're going to make it, we're going to do it together. Politics, whether liberal or conservative, cannot solve everything, but humanity can sure help.
