Democrat Pollster Has Obama Behind Romney, Huckabee

Perhaps not the favorite of the GOP candidates for President in 2012, but it appears that President Obama is facing a tougher challenge for his reelection than he would have wanted. According to PPP, which is a traditionally Democratic Party poll, Obama trails both Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee.

Matchups:
Huckabee: 47
Obama: 44

Romney: 45
Obama: 44

Gingrich: 45
Obama: 45

Obama: 47
Palin: 45

And some interesting news from the article:

It's not that any of the Republican candidates are particularly popular, or even that Obama's approval numbers have declined. But whereas in previous months a good number of the voters disapproving of his job performance weren't ready to commit to voting Republican in 2012 yet, now 85-89% of them do in each of these hypothetical contests. That suggests that even if Obama's overall unpopularity has not increased, the intensity of it has. For instance among voters who disapprove of Obama but also have an unfavorable opinion of Sarah Palin, she leads him by 22 points in a head to head contest. That wasn't necessarily the case in previous months.

Obama Leads Palin by 18%?

A new poll is out matching President Obama with his potential Republican opponents in 2012. According to the poll there are some wide varieties, with Obama barely leading former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and supposedly beating former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin by 18%.

According to the Clarus poll, Romney trails Obama by only 4%. With the economy still struggling the former businessman might be able to make a case that he can do what Obama can't: create jobs.

Interestingly enough former Florida Governor Jeb Bush is included in the poll, perhaps as a sign of things to come.

Obama 45% (-2) Obama 52% (-1)
Romney 41 (+3) Palin 34 (+0)

Obama 48 (-4) Obama 47 (-1)
Gingrich 36 (+2) Huckabee 39 (+1)

Obama 49 (no trend)
Bush 37

'Going Rogue' Book Review

Book Review: Going Rogue
Sarah Palin, Harper Collins, 2009

Jim Haroldson

I was very eager to get Governor Palin's book. I'd been waiting for it for months and to see that it was coming to my local Barnes and Noble made me quiver with joy. Unfortunately, Utica NY wasn't on Sarah's book tour (at least not yet) so I had to deal with just the book and no autograph (yet).

I spent the next couple of days cloistered in my room, coming down only to eat and to go to work. My wife must have thought that the book contained some revealing pictures of Sarah (lol!).

The book starts out forcefully, with Sarah telling us how the United States is still the greatest country in the world and how we must make sure to retain this status through the pure form of conservatism. She talks about when she was governor of Alaska and how the principles she utilized while governing could transform the US into the dynamic superpower it was when Ronald Reagan was president.

Just like the great Reagan, she taps into American patriotism. She hammers out the greatness of the former president:
Ronald Wilson Reagan, once a member of the US armed forces and Hollywood star, was able to transform American politics with the principles of conservatism.... Despite his divorce, union involvement, and his first wife's abortion, he redirected his principles back to supporting the family.
I read on, tantalized at the future of America if Sarah is elected in 2012. She talks about her early childhood and how a stable family life helped make her into the woman she is.

My father worked long hours, but always made sure to come home and tell us how important we were to him. A good mother and a good father can solve many of society's ills.
Sarah was really racking up the points. She knew what to say and how to say it. There's no way that Ms. Palin won't win in 2012. She talked about America's "glory period" during the 1940s and 1950s.

There were no divisive issues of the day. We all had a job to do-- defeat the Nazis, and we rallied around the flag and got things done, just like our ancestors. There was no argument, just get your gun, or shovel, or tractor, and get to work. After the war, the soldiers had to come home to hear complaints about imperfections in American society. We were closer then to a perfect society than we are now, thank you very much!
Sarah showed that America really knew what it was doing back then-- that we had our eyes on the prize.

And one of the last topics Sarah tackles is the Obamanation Administration. She talks about it after her discussion about the 2008 campaign:
What we have here is a President that is turning our great nation towards Socialism... The same Socialism which has failed repeatedly in Europe and Canada. We have a President unable or unwilling to serve as a competent Commander in Chief. We have a President who has no plan for the economy. We have a President who many doubt was born in this country. We need change, all right, real American change. We need a man (or woman) capable of turning this nation towards free-market liberty and not to the cliff.
Overall, this book was a joy to read. Sarah's voice boomed out at me and her writing style was in a method that I understood. She really laid down the case for conservatism-- the case for American destiny. PALIN 2012!!!

Sarah Palin endorses Doug Hoffman for Congress.

Excellent news comrades! Sarah Palin, the former Republican Governor of Alaska, and Conservative superstar, has endorsed Conservative candidate for Congress, Doug Hoffman in his bid to replace Congressman John McHugh in New York's 23rd congressional district.

Governor Palin joins the ever increasing list of Conservative Republicans who have balked the radical liberal Republican candidate who was selected by party chairs several months ago over real Conservative Republican candidates who we're in the running for the nomination, this list includes former Senator Fred Thompson, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, and Dick Armey, the former House Majority Leader under GOP rule.

While many blogs have discussed the Palin factor over the past week or so, Jumping in Pools, was the first blog to ask the question, as to whether or not Governor Palin would endorse Doug Hoffman three weeks ago.

http://jumpinginpools.blogspot.com/2009/09/will-sarah-pac-endorse-doug-hoffman.html

Will Mrs.Palin stand by her bold statement, and endorse a third party Conservative candidate, whom is really the only Republican candidate in this special congressional election in the 23rd congressional district in New York state?

Conservative blogger & supporter of Doug Hoffman's campaign, R.S. McCain, has the whole scoop at http://rsmccain.blogspot.com/2009/10/ny23-sarah-palin-endorses-hoffman.html , and has done a tremendous job in covering the election directly from the 23rd congressional district, traveling from Virginia to cover the Conservative news story of the year.

Palin to Join Obama Cabinet

Palin's New Job in the Obama White House
Roger Herrera
Washington Times

WASHINGTON -- Governor Sarah Palin (R) stunned much of the American political establishment with a revelation that she was planning to resign as the Governor of Alaska. Palin, best known for her Vice-Presidential run in 2008, was elected in 2006.

The Alaska Governor is expected to resign her position by the end of this July and place the state in the hands of current Lt. Governor Sean Parnell. The Governor expressed sadness and excitement over her decision, saying "Many just accept that lame duck status, and they hit that road. They draw a paycheck. They kind of milk it. And I'm not going to put Alaskans through that."

The reason for the resignation was not immediately clear. Some speculated that it was due to a potential 2012 run for the White House. Others believed that stepping down was due to ethical questions regarding her term in office. Other has stated that her action could be a permanent withdrawal from politics.

Late Friday evening, however, the answer became more apparent. Current Secretary of Energy Steven Chu has been asked to leave the Obama Administration due to his own ethical scandal. Chu was involved in a $500 million dollar project named the Energy Biosciences Institute, funded by British Petroleum. Additional information emerged about Chu's relationships with other energy giants causing President Obama to ask Chu to step down by August 1.

The Washington Times has received word from a Palin spokesperson that her abrupt resignation is directly related to the soon-to-be-open Cabinet position. In addition, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs is set to release a statement welcoming Palin into the Obama Administration.

Analysts believe that Obama is attempting to reconcile political foes in order to build a more stable presidency, as seen with former rival Hillary Clinton. By placing Palin in the Cabinet, both Palin and Obama could claim bipartisan credentials.

Palin reached acclaim in Alaska politics for proposing new pipelines for natural gas and crude oil, as well as her adversarial relationship with large oil producers. In the 2008 McCain/Palin campaign, Palin famously called for more energy independence and stated that the United States should, "Drill, baby, drill."

Palin's acceptance of Obama's offer was reached in a June 28th phone call. During this call, the President reportedly said that he was willing to "bury the hatchet" and "usher in a new era of bipartisanship."

Reports are also circulating stating that the Alaska Governor plans to switch party affiliations. According to the same Palin spokesperson, those reports are false.

Why Obama Will Win in 2012, Part One

Predictions and fortune-telling are among the least reliable forms of information known to man. However trends often cross over years and can signal whether or not big changes are going to occur. My predictions are not usually accurate, but I am beginning to see a series of events which will likely lead to the re-election of President Obama.

I'm starting a series which will hopefully go to show that while things aren't hopeless for the Republican Party, the warning bells should be sounded.

1. Lack of a Republican 'incumbent.'

This doesn't simply mean that there's not a Republican President or Vice President in office today, but that there is no one waiting in the wings to take the Republican mantle. I know what many may think: that Sarah Palin, as VP candidate in 2008, is ready to take over the fight. However, as 2008 showed, many in the party were willing to support a moderate candidate (McCain and Giuliani). Palin's conservatism may not be a liability with the base, but may lead many to believe that she is unwinnable in a general election.

And this goes beyond Palin. In 2008, McCain was an early favorite because he had come in a strong second in the last Republican primary. In 1976, Ronald Reagan had almost won the primaries away from sitting President Gerald Ford. When the Republicans did not have a sitting legacy, they were destroyed. Take 1996, when Robert Dole was blown out, barely gathering 40% of the national vote. Yes, he was a contender in the 1988 Republican primaries, but not near the amount of legacy of Reagan and McCain.

In addition, many of the Republican candidates are already known to run poor campaigns. Much enthusiasm was generated by former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson. According to some, the actor would grant the field the conservatism and gravitas to carry the primaries. Instead, he flopped.

Mitt Romney flipped on nearly every important issue regarding his reign as Governor of Massachusetts. On gay marriage, taxes, and abortion, he made swift turns which seemed (at least to me and much of the Republican electorate) as phony stancing attempting to please the Republican base. Instead, his mediocre record as Governor helped doomed his candidacy to a much more moderate character, McCain.

Mike Huckabee is a jovial, likable former Governor of Arkansas. His record as Governor was excellent and has a speaking ability that may top the Republican field. However, his religious views and ties with the church, being a former pastor, may hurt his chances in any Fall 2012 matchup. Huckabee is also seen as unrefined by many in his own party, lacking the business "finesse" of Romney (not that he has much anyway) or military experience of McCain.

Rudy Giuliani was one of the best mayors of New York City. He reduced taxes, unemployment, and crime. He cleaned up NYC's mess after Dinkins and helped propel a 1990s boom. His moderate views, particularly on abortion and gay marriage, alienated many in the Conservative base, but still was considered an early favorite. Giuliani may stand a shot against Obama in 2012 if the focus is on national security. However, pop culture and a short attention span seems to downplay his heroic leadership on and after the September 11th, 2001 massacres. Joe Biden's joke about Giuliani's sentence-making is similar to saying that Churchill's sentences were a "noun, a verb, and the Battle of Britain."

Bobby Jindal is a reformist from Louisiana. He may become President one day, but he is far too smart to challenge Obama if he is still popular. By 2012, Jindal may not have a strong record to stand on (although 2008 proved that you do not need one to win) and his conservative views will be mercilessly attacked during any general election campaign. My guess is he won't run until 2016 at the earliest.

There are many others who may vie for the Republican nomination in three years. Among the names are Eric Cantor, George Pataki, and John Huntsman. However, the fact that many are virtual unknowns will probably not help to unseat a current President.

Tune in for part two.

Liberals take Palin out of context...again

Being in politics, especially when being in discussion to be a front runner for nomination to run for President you will be in the spotlight constantly, but the brutal assaults on Governor Sarah Palin are not only outrageous, but most take the complete situation out of context. One of the liberals chief attacks is to paint some rift between social Conservatives and Governor Palin in the Republican party, with cheap attacks and faulty liberal interpretation on a nightly basis.

Take Sarah Palin's recent speech to a pro-life group in Indiana, Governor Palin made a great speech that made the entire room stand in applause twice, however the liberal media and blogosphere would have you believing that pro-lifers we're walking away from the speech in complete shock and now hate Sarah Palin. What could have provoked this distorted liberal claim this time?

During her pro-life speech, Governor Palin talked about how she could have gotten an abortion of her baby Trig, in another state with no-one knowing who she was, but she said that life was the only option that she could make, and that her baby boy is a pure blessing from God. I take that as : In the end, no matter what other options, only life is the option, and that all are a blessing from God.

The liberals are saying that she knows what it is like to consider abortion, etc. etc. etc. etc. - Without revealing that Governor Palin said that life was the ultimate choice, of course they left out the conclusion, so they could yet again distort the 100% pro-life Governor from Alaska, who is living proof that the pro-life movement is not just a movement, but a way of life.

The way the media has treated Sarah Palin is just outrageous and out of touch with most Americans, but as most agree - they would not be attacking Governor Palin, if they had no reason to fear her. Everyone knows she is the reason Mccain stood a fighting chance, and why McCain took the lead in polls on September 15th - and the campaign was even leading in Oregon, and they fear her - because they see a Conservative, who is even more Conservative then Ronald Reagan.

In summary, the brutal attacks on Governor Palin are out of line, and showcases the increasing downfall of journalistic standards in American media, they also show complete ignorance and biased in reporting - especially when the media refuses to critisize Obama who has wasted more money then any other President in American history in 90 days (let alone 2 terms for every President).

I support Governor Palin, as does Conservative nation, and so will the rest of America - so these reports might be insulting and idiotic, but they just prove how much they fear a gun-totting, God loving, Governor from Wasilla Alaska. Or in other words, the average American.

Obama approval sinks.

The Obama honeymoon is over.

His approval rating is now at 55%, support for the idiotic stimulus package is dropping every day, and even some in the Media are starting to question this stimulus bullcrap package (very few).

His honeymoon is over, Americans know this stimulus package is nothing more then wasteful spending, none of this will help the economy, and it will increase the size of government.

No dice, the Republicans have had enough, America has had enough, and Obama's popularity is falling quicker then any other Presidents in American history.

Palin 2012.

Steele is RNC chairman, not good.

I swear the Republican Party is attempting to piss off Conservatives in anyway they can, first McCain is chosen as the Republican nominee, fair enough, now Steele is elected as the RNC chairman.

This is a Conservative party! If we keep on embracing the idiotic "moderate" position between us and the Democrats, we will keep on FAILING IN ELECTIONS.

Only good news from this, the Main Stream Media cannot call us racist anymore!

I liked Katon Dawson over Mr.Steele, but lets hope for the best from Steele, perhaps he will be more Conservative then most are portraying him as.

Palin/Jindal 2012! The two Conservatives we need in the White House.

Steele Wins RNC Chair

I don't know if you've been following the news, but Michael Steele has carried away the RNC Chairmanship. I supported Steele and hope that he is able to expand the party back into its 2004 state.

Alaska Taking the Lead on Alternative Energy

Alaska, run by Governor Sarah Palin, has announced an ambitious new goal: 50% of Alaska's energy being renewable by 2025. Now there are not many people up in the Arctic Circle, but it's twice as ambitious as President Obama's:

That's from the governor who can't wait to drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and who sunk $500 million into a yet-to-be built gas pipeline. But now, she said, she would move to wean the state's far-flung villages from diesel oil to wind and geothermal and make the state's six utilities cease their in-fighting to more efficiently serve populated areas.

Palin's 50% goal one-ups California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who touts himself as the nation's green governor: Two months ago, he signed an executive order requiring 33% of Golden State electricity to be generated from renewable sources by 2020. President-elect Barack Obama, whose home state of Illinois is a major coal producer, has called for 25% renewable energy use nationwide by 2025.

Good for Sarah Palin and good for Alaska.

How Much Did Palin Actually Help Chambliss?

As just about everyone in the United States knows by now, Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) won his Senate race, defeating the Democrats' hope for a 60-seat filibuster-proof supermajority. And one of the repeated themes of the analysis is the Chambliss won so easily thanks to the help of one Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska. Chambliss himself said :

"Sarah Palin came in on the last day, did a fly-around and, man, she was dynamite. We packed the houses everywhere we went. And it really did allow us to peak and get our base fired up," Chambliss said.

"I mean, I can't overstate the impact she had down here," he continued. "When she walks in a room, folks just explode. And they really did pack the house everywhere we went. She's a dynamic lady, a great administrator, and I think she's got a great future in the Republican Party."

But it doesn't seem like she was the make-or-break. Obviously she helped Chambliss get out the Conservative Christian base, but something about the numbers doesn't show a massive surge. Chambliss won last night's race by a hearty 14%. However, on November 4, he only led by three.

Now, Georgia is one of the redder states in the Union, so did Palin really push him over the top? Instead, it looks like it wasn't the person who was there, but it was the person who wasn't there that made a difference. It appears that since Obama wasn't on the ballot, many Democrats didn't see the purpose in going out to vote:

Martin appeared to suffer mightily from a lack of African-American turnout, which dropped from 30 percent of early votes four weeks ago to around 20 percent in the runoff.

For Republicans and strategists that think that the GOP can take the Congress back anytime soon cannot underestimate the celebrity and gravity of the President-Elect. He can push people out to vote that wouldn't do so anyway, and can even rope in some Independents and Republicans to boot. He was probably good for 8% of the difference on November 4. The Democrats have a strong down-ticket leader now. College kids and the like are less likely to pay attention to other officeseekers, just as long as they have the valuable "D" next to their name.

So is Sarah Palin the savior of the GOP? Obviously she got at least some of the vote out for Senator Chambliss. However, she was insignificant compared to President-Elect Obama.

Jindal in 2012

Well, I know that it's a bit far away, but I wanted to write a few preliminary thoughts on this idea. My first inclination for the nomination would be Giuliani, but I think that the base is not going to seriously consider another moderate.

So we look at Bobby Jindal. Why would his candidacy help the Republican Party?
Well,

*He has campaigned and governed on reducing corruption in perhaps the most corrupt state in the Union
*He is an Indian-American, showing that the Republicans are willing to support minority candidates.
*He is the son of immigrants, showing that the American Dream is alive and well.
*He is young, which can play against Obama's youth.
*He is a governor, showing executive experience.
*He is well experienced and has shown incredible tenacity.
*He is untainted from the 2008 election.

So Bobby Jindal may get my support in a couple of years.

If McCain had Chosen Romney, Would He Be Doing Better?

I was reading an article on Talk Left about this very question. And to be sure, it comes from a biased source. However, I feel that Romney would have been a worse choice than Sarah Palin. A few points why:

1. Palin is an authentic middle-class woman, Romney is a rich businessman.
2. Palin worked her way up to governor because she fought corruption. Romney did the same by having a lot of money.
3. Romney's an expert on Wall Street. Sarah Palin know about Main Street.
4. Romney was (and is) perceived as a phony. Palin, much as some people don't like her, has always been seen as stating her opinions.
5. Romney's flaws and problems were already being researched by the Democrats and some even came out by Republicans during the primaries.
6. Romney's positions on issues while Governor of Massachusetts (more moderate positions which I like) were changed just to run for the Republican nomination. What happens if he becomes President.

Palin wasn't my first choice, but McCain is. Remember to Vote November 4th and get people out.
