BREAKING: Fed Judge Blocks AZ Law

 From all over the wires comes the news that a Federal Judge has issued an injunction blocking the enforcement of the strict Arizona Immigration law.

An excerpt from the article:

The overall law will still take effect Thursday, but without the provisions that angered opponents — including sections that required officers to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws.
The judge also put on hold parts of the law that required immigrants to carry their papers at all times, and made it illegal for undocumented workers to solicit employment in public places. In addition, the judge blocked officers from making warrantless arrests of suspected illegal immigrants.
"Requiring Arizona law enforcement officials and agencies to determine the immigration status of every person who is arrested burdens lawfully-present aliens because their liberty will be restricted while their status is checked," U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton ruled.

74% Back AZ Law or Think It's Too Weak

That's right. 17% of this country believes that the new law in Arizona does not go far enough to solve the illegal immigration problem in the country. Support is running very high for the new law, despite almost universal bad press, boycotts, and protests.

Opinion of AZ Law:

Support as is: 57%
Too Far: 23%
Isn't Strong Enough: 17%
DK: 3%

This means that there is almost the same proportion of people that believe that the law is too weak than those which oppose it. This is just another political liability for the Democrats heading into the November elections, especially if immigration reform comes up.

Gallup: Don't Sue Arizona

Americans oppose the federal lawsuit against Arizona over their immigration plan by over 15%. Gallup's polling shows that under 40% support such a move, consistent with the numbers of people that support the new and controversial law.


Favor lawsuit: 33%
Oppose: 50%
Other/dk: 17%

This is more bad news for the President as more people are turning away from his policies. Let's see if they continue with the lawsuit and what happens in the courts.

As the great-grandson of a Legal Immigrant.

I'm the great-grandson of Legal Immigrants; one was from Czechoslovakia, and the other was from Serbia. They came over to America over 100 years ago on a boat, entering the US through Ellis Island, and never left. Like 95% of American citizens, my ancestors came to this Nation as Immigrants from an unfavorable land, seeking a fresh start and freedom.

I am one-sixth Serbian, one-sixth English, one-sixth Scottish, one-sixth Irish, one sixth-Indian, and one-sixth Czechoslovakian, but I am 100% American, and like those who came to this land; enduring hardship and assimilating into our Culture, I believe in the law of the land, and that no lawbreaker deserves the respect or honor of being an American citizen.

There's a reason why 60% of Americans are behind Arizona's new anti-illegal immigration bill, and why some specific measures receive close to 70% support from the public; and that reason isn't difficult to understand: We are all from Immigrants, but we all from law abiding Immigrants who loved this Nation, unlike illegals, who use this Nation.

Call me bigoted. Call be crazy. Call me outrageous.

I consider each and every illegal alien to be a criminal, who should be deported from the United States of America, for breaking our most sacred laws, and for breaking our sovereign borders. I believe in the law, and the law calls for illegal aliens to be deported, regardless of their situation in this Nation.

The solution to illegal immigration is not difficult; secure the borders, crackdown on businesses that hire illegals, and remove American citizenship from the children of illegal aliens. The only question is this: Are we as Americans, really ready to do what is needed? I believe we are, but we must act soon.

America is a Nation of Immigrants; of Legal Immigrants.

Good for President Bush-- Commutes Border Patrol Agents

In one of his last acts in office, President Bush commuted the sentences of two wrongly-imprisoned border patrol agents. From CNN:

The prison sentences of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean will now end March 20.
Ramos had received an 11-year prison sentence; Compean had received a 12-year term. They began serving their sentences in January 2007.

The Office of the Pardon Attorney was still reviewing the clemency request when Bush made his decision, Justice Department spokeswoman Laura Sweeney said.

"The president has reviewed the circumstances of this case as a whole and the conditions of confinement and believes the sentences they received are too harsh and that they, and their families, have suffered enough for their crimes," a senior administration official said.

Good for President Bush and the agents. It's about time.
