Castle vs. O'Donnell - It's about GOP control.

What do you know about Delaware? Probably not much. It was originally settled by the Dutch, then the Swedish, and it was eventually forced into submission by the English, who in turn sold it to William Penn. It would later become the first State to support the United States Constitution, and later on was only one of a handful of slave states to remain in the Union.

Quite interesting, eh? I bet most Americans didn't know that much about Delaware, which is why it's so interesting that nearly every Conservative blog, website, and radio show is following the race of the day: Delaware's GOP Senatorial Primary between Michael Castle and Christine O'Donnell.

Michael Castle is the Republican Liberal in Congress, while Christine O'Donnell is the two-time failed Conservative Republican in Delaware. It pains me to write that, but what's true is what's true. Conservatives cannot select either candidate based on their votes or positions, but on which candidate can win in November and help Republicans regain control of the US Senate next January.

Michael Castle has won statewide elected office ten times without problem, and he's a sure vote for Senator Mitch McConnell to be the Senate Majority Leader in 2011. Christine O'Donnell has lost in Delaware twice before, once as a write-in candidate after she lost the Republican Nomination to face-off against Tom Carper in 2006, and again to Joe Biden in 2008 by 29 points as the Republican Nominee.

Republicans have a chance to regain control of the US Senate, and in order to do that we need Michael Castle to be our Nominee in Delaware...He's the only Republican that can defeat Democrat Chris Coons in November of this year or next year. That's a shame, but no other Republican (Conservative or Liberal) has won statewide office in Delaware, besides for Michael Castle since the early 1990's (excluding the State Auditor, Tom Wagner).

Tell me, who should we support: Castle or O'Donnell?

The answer is simple: Michael Castle for United States Senate.

Castle has won statewide office 13 times, 10 as Congressman.

Delaware and South Carolina.

Tea Partiers dislike Congressman Castle of Delaware, and Senator Graham of South Carolina. So far as to challenge Mr.Castle in Delaware's Senatorial Republican Primary. However, this creates a political situation that could end up hurting the Tea Party, hurting Republicans, and hurting all chance of winning in Delaware.

Mr.Castle is a Delaware Republican - supports cap & trade, supports socially liberal policies, and supports more Democratic positions than any other Republican in Congress. He is the RINO of the House, I know that. But I also know the state that he resides from: Delaware, the first state to support the federal Constitution, and almost the last one to support a Republican.

Mr.Castle is the only individual to win statewide office in Delaware since the early 1990's, as a member of the Republican Party. No-one else has done that, and no-one else has come close to doing that. It's true that Mr.Castle is a Republican liberal, but his opponent is a Democrat liberal, and I will take 55% Conservatism over 100% Liberalism every day of the week.

The Tea Party doesn't give a damn about what I just wrote. They want Grand Old Party scalps, and they want Ms.Christine O'Donnell, a lovely Pro-Life advocate, to be our Nominee against the Democratic Nominee, Chris Coons, who is leading Ms.O'Donnell by 7-to-10 points according to almost every poll. While at the same time: Castle leads in every poll.

So here's the situation: Mr.Castle is the only Republican that can win in Delaware, but the Tea Party is supporting a candidate that has already lost running for this seat before (2008 election against Joe Biden), and is running towards her fourth* straight electoral defeat now. There's a time for pureness and there's a time for big tents.

Senator Graham in South Carolina is a time for pureness. Michael Castle in Delaware is a time for big, big, big tents. Republicans regaining the United States Senate depends on winning every seat that we can, with the proper candidates that will bring us to the promise land.

Any thoughts?

* - Lost the Republican Nomination for US Senate in 2006.
* - Lost the 2006 US Senate Election running as a Write-in.
* - Lost the 2008 US Senate Election against Senator Biden.

Do We Want to Win in Delaware?

Delaware is a liberal state; a state that President Obama won with over 60% of the vote in 2008 and a state that now approves of his job performance by a 55-44% margin. Plus, Delaware hasn't elected a Republican as Governor in two decades, or as Senator in over one decade.

However, Delaware Republicans are very enthusiastic about their political chances this Fall, due in part to the campaign of Representative Michael Castle, a nine term veteran of Congress, and the only other Republican to win a statewide political campaign since 1990 (Senator William Roth was the other).

According to recent polling data, Mr.Castle leads his potential Democratic opponent in Delaware's upcoming special Senatorial election by a margin of ten percentage points or more, even though his voting record has opposed the Obama Agenda/Administration most of the time.

So what's the problem? A moderate, yet popular Republican is leading in the election to takeover Vice-President Biden's former Senate seat, and we're just one step closer to a Republican Senate.

Apparently, Mr.Castle is not Conservative enough for some Delaware Republicans (who must be oblivious to the liberal nature of their state), including Christine O'Donnell, a failed candidate for political office who has attracted the support of Tea Partiers and Pro-Lifers alike in opposing Castle in a upcoming and potentially disastrous Republican Primary.

This is not the place for Conservative Pureness.

Republicans and Conservatives in Delaware have only two options: 1. Select Castle, win the race and have a Senator who at the least will vote on our side 70% of the time. 2. Select O'Donnell, be a 100% Conservative campaign, and lose the race come November by 20%.

Don't believe me? Take a glance at this new poll from Rasmussen:

Castle (R) - 49%. Coons (D) - 37%. Other/Unsure - 14%.

Coons (D) - 46%. O'Donnell (R) - 36%. Other/Unsure - 18%.

Regardless of what The Other McCain and Hot Air might think, Delaware is not New York's 23rd congressional district, and Christine O'Donnell is not Doug Hoffman. Castle can win this election, no-other Republican can.....we need to be thinking about the big picture here, not a minuscule/ideological one.
