Hayworth trails Democrat opponent in Arizona.

Supporters of Senator John McCain often tout his fiscal discipline, his record on National Defense and our Troops, and his common Conservatism that has led to a 81% rating from the ACU. But, I have a feeling that McCainiacs will soon be adding Only McCain Can Win Arizona in their touted reasons.

According to a new poll from Ramussen Reports, Senator John McCain is leading his potential Democratic opponent by close to 20%. However, McCain's Republican foe, JD Hayworth, trails their common Democratic opponent by 5%, and close to 30% of pro-McCain voters obviously will not support Hayworth if he is the eventual Republican Nominee (at least for now).

Rasmussen Reports Survey of 500 Likely Voters:

Sen. John McCain (R) - 53%.
Rodney Glassman (D) - 34%.
Some other candidate - 11%.
Not Sure - 3%.

Rodney Glassman (D) - 43%.
Rep. JD Hayworth (R) - 38%.
Some other candidate - 13%.
Not Sure - 6%.

This poll is shocking. I have always figured that if Hayworth were to beat McCain, that at least the Senate seat would remain in Republican hands and that we would have a National Defense supporter oncemore. That last part now means nothing, because Hayworth cannot win, McCain can, and only McCain will.

Hugo Chavez Really is Insane

 Christopher Hitchens has hit it out of the ballpark again with a piece examining the sanity of Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez. Apparently Hitchens visited there not too long ago and got to see Hugo in action-- and what a portrait he paints:

I was hugely impressed by the way that the boss scorned this overture. He essentially doubted the existence of al-Qaida, let alone reports of its attacks on the enemy to the north. "I don't know anything about Osama Bin Laden that doesn't come to me through the filter of the West and its propaganda." To this, Penn replied that surely Bin Laden had provided quite a number of his very own broadcasts and videos. I was again impressed by the way that Chávez rejected this proffered lucid-interval lifeline. All of this so-called evidence, too, was a mere product of imperialist television. After all, "there is film of the Americans landing on the moon," he scoffed. "Does that mean the moon shot really happened? In the film, the Yanqui flag is flying straight out. So, is there wind on the moon?" As Chávez beamed with triumph at this logic, an awkwardness descended on my comrades, and on the conversation.

Chavez in Hitchens' article reminds me of Mussolini-- boisterous while presenting himself to be an intelligent man of the people. Mussolini was insistent in reopening the past with a new iteration of the Roman Empire while Chavez has nothing better to do than exhume the body of Simon Bolivar! Yes, you read that correctly. Chavez actually dug up the body of Bolivar, tweeted(!) about it and then said that he telepathically communicated with it!

Yes, he is crazy.

Obama Takes Credit for Iraq War Win

President Obama has taken responsibility for the Iraq War-- now that it's over. Now it's a great success-- after George Bush and David Petraeus and the backs of the American military won it. Glad to see that Obama stepped in after the fighting and made everything better-- after his proposals while in the Senate and on the campaign trail would have left part of the country in the stead of al Qaeda and a larger, oil-riddled chunk for Iran.

House Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio issued a statement praising Obama "for listening to our commanders in the field" but added, "This is no time to celebrate." He warned that the stalled formation of a new government in Baghdad and a recent attack on Shiite pilgrims prove how vulnerable Iraq remains.

Obama defended his and others' opposition to the war, saying "there are patriots who supported going to war and patriots who opposed it."

Following the speech, Obama left to speak at a Democratic National Committee fund-raising event where 200 guests were expected to donate a combined $500,000 .
