Toomey Leads Sestak by Seven

Rasmussen, the most accurate pollster out there, has released a new poll which places Republican Pat Toomey a full seven points ahead of Congressman Joe Sestak for the Pennsylvania Senate race. Not only are the results outside of the margin of error, it also pushes Toomey near 50%, an excellent sign in a good Republican year.

This also hurts Sestak at a vulnerable time. First, his surge from beating Arlen Specter in the Democratic Primary is fading. Secondly, the talk of the potential job offer from the Obama Administration may be damaging his credibility. While the offer should not necessarily hurt Sestak himself, voter's don't like to hear a candidate's name and "bribery" or "felony" in the same sentence.

Results:
Toomey: 45%
Sestak: 38%
Undecided/other: 17%.

12% are undecided while 5% choose another candidate. If these numbers are accurate, Sestak has to win all 12% to get to 50%-- a hard propostition without a game changer. I expect to see some attack ads come September/October.

Sestak Up by 2% Over Toomey

According to a new... yes, Daily Kos-Research 2000 poll, Congressman Joe Sestak is beating Republican Pat Toomey in the Senate contest in Pennsylvania. Kos polls don't tend to be too accurate, but since that's what we have today, we might as well highlight the results.

Sestak (D): 43%
Toomey (R): 40%

So what can we make out of this? There's still 17% undecided. With no incumbent and quite frankly, no incumbent party, it's baffling to see where the undecideds fall. However, considering that PA is a blue state, Toomey better be pushing hard if he wants to win.

Also according to the poll internal dynamics, 30% of independents are undecided....

Toomey Leads Specter by 3

Presumptive Pennsylvania Republican Senatorial candidate Pat Toomey leads former Republican-turned-Democrat Arlen Specter by three points. Specter, who has been a Senator from that state since 1981, may very well be knocked off after baely defeating Toomey in a primary challenge in 2004.

Toomey 46 -- Specter 43 -- Und 11
Toomey 42 -- Sestak 36 -- Und 22

Specter's job rating is in perilous territory for an incumbent -- 34 percent approve while 52 percent disapprove. President Obama also is in negative territory, with 46 percent approving and 50 percent disapproving. Forty-two percent of Pennsylvanians say they support the Obama health care plan while 49 percent oppose it. And 49 percent support a position held by Toomey -- that Republicans should work to repeal the bill; 44 percent say no.

Pennsylvania inexplicably backed President Obama in 2008 and it looks like he would be a drag on the ticket. I wouldn't be all that surprised, though, if Specter somehow pulls it off.

Toomey? Randall Toomey?

Anyone following the news lately knows that Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania recently decided to switch parties due to a strong challenge from the former head of the Club for Growth, Pat Toomey.

Now you would think that that is the story. However, seeing the name "Toomey" bandied about reminded me of Randall Toomey, one of Herb Sewell's cellmates.

Do we want one of Randall Toomey's relatives becoming Senator from Pennsylvania? Well, read part of Herb's "About Me":

I recently was parolled from the Atascadero Hospital for the Criminally Insane, where I was incarcerated for various unmentionable crimes. My confinement by the state of California was a wonderful experience; it gave me the opportunity to meet two men whose minds are more twisted than mine: Walter Bellhaven and Randall Toomey. It was also within the walls of Atascadero where I learned to control the creature. The Creature still talks to me but now I manifest its power through my very important sociological studies and writings. Now that I am again living with the public, surrounded by temptation, I must control the creature!

Goodness!
