Farve should retire.

Brett Farve is a football legend in his own right: 497 Touchdown's have been thrown, 181 Wins have been achieved, and over 60% of passes have successfully been completed. Not one smart individual on this planet will oppose his claim to greatness, or his rightful place in the NFL Hall-Of-Fame located in Canton, Ohio.

However, his time has come and gone, and it's time to retire for good.

Farve can still toss the ball downfield with relative ease, and I'm sure the Minnesota Vikings are pleased to have him - who wouldn't? I was ecstatic when he joined the Jets squad back in 2008. But his refusal to retire is no longer about his love for the game, but for a love of self promotion and one long, last media hurrah. One that will be his ultimate downfall.

I wish him well this season, and I hope it's his last hurrah for his sake.

Any thoughts?

P.S. - If Farve really does believe in his website's slogan: "For The Love Of The Game", he'll hang up the cleats before hurting his Team, and his Legacy.

P.P.S - Farve needs to call Ken Griffey Jr.

Toby Gerhart not drafted in First Round. Race involved?

When Yahoo! reported that Toby Gerhart, a white running back from Stanford University was being prejudiced against, for being a white running back, I just couldn't believe it: Of all sports, I figured football was the least likely to be distorted by race. Well, the First Round of the 2010 National Football League Draft has concluded, and Gerhart was not drafted; was this due to racism or lack of talent?

Buffalo, San Diego and Detroit all drafted running backs. Now I'm not doubting the talent of those running backs nor am I accusing the General Managers of those teams of reverse racism, but we should evaluate the statistics of the three running backs selected, and of Mr.Gerhart, who some are claiming has been prejudiced against.

C.J. Spiller (#9 - Buffalo) : 1,212 rushing yards, 12 rushing touchdowns, 36 receptions, 4 receiving touchdowns, and he's graduating from Clemson University.

Ryan Matthews (#12 - San Diego) : 1,808 rushing yards, 19 rushing touchdowns, 11 receptions, 0 receiving touchdowns, and he's forgoing his Senior year at Fresno State University.

Jahvid Best (#30 - Detroit) : 867 rushing yards, 12 rushing touchdowns, 22 receptions, 4 receiving touchdowns, and he's forgoing his Senior year at the University of California.

Toby Gerhart : 1,871 rushing yards, 28 rushing touchdowns, 11 receptions, 0 receiving touchdowns, and he's graduating from Stanford University.

It appears that Gerhart is the better of the four above mentioned Running Backs, and that their main difference is skin color, but then again, NFL Scouts are aware of information that most average Joe's could only dream about. However; Gerhart and Best are from the same Conference, and Gerhart without a doubt was the better of the two Running Backs, even when Best was of good health, but Best was the one who was drafted.

Is there racism going on? I have no idea to be honest, but I'm open to all opinions and suggestions from the readers of Jumping in Pools, who should stay tuned to Jumping in Pools for all of your NFL Draft needs.

The rest from MetroWNY:
Merlin Olsen, 69, died Thursday morning from complications early related to mesothelioma, which erodes the protective lining around the lungs.

Olsen, along with Rosey Grier, Deacon Jones and Lamar Lundy, was part of the Los Angeles Rams' famous Fearsome Foursome in the 1960s, together they were considered one of the best defensive fronts in all of NFL history.

Roethlisberger to Obama: 'This Was for You'

San Francisco Bugle Examiner
"News Under a Microscope"

For those who like this satire, buy Matthew Avitabile's book, The Real History of World War II.

Tampa, Florida- In a show of change from the norm, Ben Roethlisberger, the Quarter Back of the Super Bowl champions Steelers, gave his thanks directly to the President.

"I'd like to thank my mom and dad and God," Roethlisberger said. "But I can't forget our new President Barack Obama; he showed the country that we can achieve anything. Thank you, this victory was because of you too." When asked his feelings on John McCain, Roethlisberger asked, "Who?"

The Pittsburgh Steelers, who won Super Bowl XLIII 27-23, defeated the Arizona Cardinals in a last minute drive that ended in a Steelers touchdown. "This all is like a dream," said Wide Receiver Hines Ward. When asked about Roethlisberger's comments, Ward responded that "Ben is an excitable guy, but he says what he believes."

Asked after the game about his feelings on the game, Arizona's QB Kurt Warner said, "The game doesn't matter. I just thank God that I am able to do what I love and love what I do. Ben and the Steelers are a great team, and they were just better than us today."

"I'm just sorry we let John McCain down," Warner said, jogging towards the Cardinal's locker room. -Bugle Examiner

Joe's Superbowl Lock of the Week

Dah-dah-dah-dah

Dah-dah-dah-dah

Dah-dah-dah-daaaah

Du-du-du-du-du!

It feels like a while but Dr. Joe C. is reporting for duty in order to line your pockets with lots and lots of cash! I know that a lot of you will probably be hammered or staring at some babe, but it's about time you put some cold hard cash down on the game.

It just so happens that Joe C., PhD (analytical physics, UC Berkeley) has some inside information on the game. And it also so happens that in 29 years of calling foot-ball, Joe C. has never, EVER gotten a call wrong. EVER!!!!

So now, for our listening and reading audience, Joe C. will provide for you, free of charge, the next winner of the Super Bowl.

The weather in Tampa is supposed to be a climid 65 degrees on Sunday, and the skies are going to open with the personal blessing of John Madden (rest his soul), on this, the true day of the football year.

And when the kickoff actually arrives, it will show that one of these two teams will have what it takes to take it all the way!

So our winner:

The Oakland Raiders

That's right. You heard it here first. When you make 100 beans on Monday morning, remember to call your good pal Joe. Remember to give good ol' Joe C. a cut, so I can move out of my mother's attic.

With Jim Plunkett in the pocket, the arm of the team is unbeatable. That guy is able to hit the stink off of-- something that stinks something real bad.

Coach Tom Flores knows how to get the attention of his men together. I mean, if he was able to get Cliff Branch to run more than five yards, he must be able to levitate or some other voodoo.

And Bob Chandler's expected to have up to seven TDs on Sunday. Seven, you ask? Wouldn't that break some sort of record? Well, I don't know. But it sure sounds nice.

Hell, even Derrick-freakin'-Ramsey's gonna score two touchdowns.

This game is the lock of the locks. I mean, not even zombie Houdini with five arms and a catheter could pull this shit off.

Final score: Oakland Raiders 132, What-er-place No-Balls 2. (Oakland gave them a safety to make the idiots feel better.

That's Joe C., known for service!
