US Crushes Iran in Basketball

The United States has crushed Iran-- at least in basketball. The American FIBA team destroyed the Islamic Republic's team, which surprisingly was not made up of midgets. So it looks like the great Persian pride has to take another seat. The score wound up being 88-51 and it sounds like the US team didn't even try very hard.

Midway through the second both Love and Durant would knock down long perimeter threes pushing Team USA to a 42 - 28 cushion entering halftime.  The efficient duo closed out the first half of play shooting an impressive 8 of 11 from the floor and 2 of 4 from three.  Durant continuing to provide Team USA with a little bit of everything and Love proving more and more with each passing game just how talented and skilled he is as a pro player.
Unfortunately for the Iranian National Team things did not get much easier in the second half as they were out - scored by Team USA 46 - 23 behind some stellar defense in the back court.  Team USA's length and athleticism proving to be quite an issue for Iran when attempting to run their half court style offense.

For our Iranian readers:

Timetun kheyli bad hast. Morde hastand? Timetun ye basketball sharm ast!

or
تیم شما بد است. آیا آنها مرده؟ تیم بسکتبال شما شرم است

Dwyane Wade Compares Losing 2 Games in a Row to 9/11

Dwyane Wade, who recently signed with Miami, joining forces with Chris Bosh and LeBron James, doesn't seem like a bad guy...but man, he sure is a moron.  In a statement about the upcoming season with the Heat, Wade said, "If we lose a couple in a row this season, it will be like the World Trade is coming down again."  How he could think that losing two games in a row is comparable to three thousand men and women being murdered is beyond understanding.  Also, Mr. Wade, it was called the World Trade Center; thousands of people lost their families there.  Learn it.

Update:

The website I cited slightly misquoted Wade.  His actual quote reads, "Plus, there's going to be times when we lose 2-3 games in a row, and it seems like the world has crashed down. You all are going to make it seem like the World Trade is coming down again..."
Stupid

LeBron James Wins Second MVP

In the following days, a source states that LeBron James has won this year's Most Valuable Player award in the NBA.  This is the second MVP for James, with his first coming just last year.  As a Knicks fan, hopefully after the season LeBron can bring those trophies over here to New York.

Go ahead, laugh, I admitted that I am a Knicks fan.

UConn Wins it All

Geno Auriemma's UConn Huskies have won their second national championship in a row, with their second perfect season in a row. Down 20-12 at the half, the Huskies stormed back against Stamford to win 53-47. This marks UConn's 78th win in a row, but their first win in that streak without a double-digit win.

Maya Moore led the Huskies' comeback, scoring several possessions in a row at one point. UConn outscored Stamford 41 to 26 in the second half.

Wow: Saint Mary's downs Villanova

Just one minute ago, ten seed Saint Mary defeated two seed Villanova in a surprising upset in the Thirsty Thirty-Two. Villanova sees the end to their tournament dreams, while Saint Mary will go on to the Sweet Sixteen.

My poor bracket will never be the same.

My Top Eight Touney Moments

Considering that the Elite Eight is this weekend, I will list my eight greatest NCAA tourney moments:
8. My shocking double-take of Iowa State-Hampton, 2001 tournament

6. Streaking in Davidson and blinding Stephen Curry.
5. Inventing basketball and teaching Bobby Knight how to coach.
4. Slam dunking the ball over Shaquille O'Neil.
3. Me leading George Mason to the Final Four in 2006 after I transfered from Syracuse.

10 Reasons Why Obama Going on Vacation this Week is Actually a Good Thing

If you haven't heard, Obama's already going on vacation. Now, back to our list:

10. You'll just love those pictures of him playing basketball.
9. He'll have time to think about all the bad things he's done.
8. He''ll have time to sharpen his sporting skills, just in case Castro challenges him to a game of pick-up baseball.
7. While watching television, he might just happen on an episode of House, MD. Not that it's relative, but that's one awesome show.
6. After watching House, maybe he'll become a unsocial, SOB who is able to solve complex mysteries that trouble even the most astute. It's better than just being an unsocial SOB.
5. He'll spend time with his children; in that time there is a slight chance that he will realize that he's bankrupting their future.
4. Maybe, while watching the Basketball All-Star game, he will decide to leave politics and pursue a career in basketball.
3. He might discover the true meaning of love.
2. They say that Lincoln went home every month on vacation and played a lot of sports.
1. While on vacation, he can't screw up Washington.

Joe's Lock of the Week

Hello, everyone. Although I feign to think that any of you need to be convinced further of my breadth of ridiculous intelligence, it has come to my attention that there are "professional" sporting teams that play each other. So, Dr. Joe has decided to throw his hat in and predict some games.

This week's lock:

The Sacramento Kings over the Cleveland Cavaliers, 125-100, on January 27

I have learned from a source that the Kings have several people who are very athletic on their team. Furthermore, I have been told that the Kings have one or two persons who are over six feet in height. With such overwhelming odds, I cannot conceive the Cavaliers as having a chance in this game called basket-ball.Although the Kings may be 3 and 20 on the road, I believe convincingly that they can vanquish the Cavaliers at home, even though Cleveland is undefeated there. I have also heard of a man called LeBron James, who makes over, and I am not exaggerating this, $100,000 a year. Such shenanigans will not help the Cavaliers, for I, the almighty Joe, have predestined it.
Remember ladies and gents, Joe does not condone gambling, for it feeds the devil's veins.
