Geithner Admitted to Mental Hospital

Geithner Released from Alexandria, VA Hospital
UPDATED: 1:03 PM
Adam Ligert

United States Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has had a daunting task in front of him the last seven months. Geithner has had to balance the well-being of the overall economy with the frailties of both the banking industry and inflationary fears.

Geithner, who was appointed by then President-Elect Obama last year has been at the forefront of economic chatter since January. He helped push through both the economic stimulus plan and new regulations which affect almost one-third of the US economy.

Early Tuesday morning the stress appeared to get to Geithner as he was rushed to the Inova Alexandria Hospital on Seminary Road. The official reason for the visit to the hospital was stated simply as "overstress."

The impromptu visit raises many questions, however. Members of the White House Cabinet are usually seen on-site or in an undisclosed hospital set up for the Washington elite. Visiting a public hospital appears to underly a sense of urgency in this case.

Geithner was admitted to the Susan Baker Mental Health ward of the hospital, where he was observed for almost five hours. Doctors have stated that they gave Geithner valium and allowed him to leave. Sources state that Geithner was perscribed Vicodin to deal with the mounting stress.

Sources in the White House state that Geithner has been increasingly worried over the massive deficits which President Obama has been proposing. Other sources state that this new stress was caused by a yet-unknown stimuli. This stimuli has been speculated to be a potential crash of the US economy.

According to Jeffrey Geithner, Secretary Geithner's brother, the Secretary has been wanting to speak out against the President's policies, but has been muzzled by "an oppressive press corps" and the President's "erratic sense of control."

Geithner was released around 1:00 pm, surrounded by members of the White House staff. The President could not be reached for comment.

Neat: Yahoo! News Lists "Dumbest Moments in Business 2009," Including the Obama Administration Twice

Looking at a list of the "ten dumbest moments in business 2009" from the Main Stream Media, I hardly expected anything about the President's agregious spending and "cuts." But lo and behold Yahoo! listed two of the Prez's biggest blunders. Sure, they didn't mention his truly biggest, like the Porkulus bill or the Crap & Trade bill, but anything is a start:

From Yahoo! News:

9. Geithner gives few details, tanks the market

In February, President Obama used his first White House press conference to alert the public to a momentous event. "Tomorrow, my Treasury Secretary, Tim Geithner, will be announcing some very clear and specific plans for how we are going to start loosening up credit once again," he said.

But when Geithner appeared at Treasury the next day, on Feb. 10, he offered few plans of any sort, let alone clear and specific ones, which helps to explain the stock market's 5% plunge that day.

10. Obama's spending cuts...a ways to go

You're eight months behind on your $500,000 mortgage, your bank is demanding a meeting, and you respond by telling them there's nothing to worry about. Why not? Because you just saved $40 by canceling your newspaper subscription.

That, essentially, is the kind of fast budget talk President Obama trotted out in April when he made a big to-do out of instructing his cabinet to cut $100 million from their budgets.

$100 million may sound like a big number, but the cut would only reduce the United States' projected $1.8 trillion budget deficit by 0.005% -- less than what you'd save for your mortgage by giving up the daily paper.

If this stuff keeps up, we may one day have an unbiased Media. Well, maybe not.

Obama to Develop "Angry Face"

WASHINGTON

Faced with increasing deficits, attacks from Republicans, and crises abroad, President Obama is slated to take off this weekend for a regrouping attempt. According to sources within the Administration, Obama is attempting to create a new persona, in order to show his seriousness.

"The President has tried other means to show that he is serious," said Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, "He's tried the condescending lecturer, the whiny student, and the clueless buffoon. Yet none of these caricatures have really penetrated the American psyche."

While at Camp David, the President is going to meet with a litany of experts, including psychologists, sociologists, and clowns to attempt to contort his face into one of anger.

"We tried it before," said Laffy, the St. Paul Region's #2 Children's Birthday Clown, "But when I shouted at him to show me his warface, he just looked constipated. It's really a shame cause he looks like he's passing a kidney stone."

Psychologists are also worried. Paul Robes, a prominent family specialist from the Los Angeles area, has noted that the President is not taken seriously.

"He needs to connect with the American people," Robes said, "When people are frustrated with losing their jobs, they turn on the TV and see the President filling out March Madness brackets, drinking beers, and going on Jay Leno. This isn't a statesman: this is Tom Cruise on speed."

Other sources are trying to force an angry expression from the President. This includes Michelle Obama shouting at him over a spilled latte in 1989, Tim Geithner saying that his dog was run over by former President Clinton, and Senator Orrin Hatch of Kansas urinating on the White House lawn.

"I don't get it," said Laffy, "Whenever he should get angry, he just sits and stammers, 'uh, that's uh, because, uh, and the previous Administration. He's almost a basket case."

The President could not be reached for comment.

Obama Hires Rumplestiltskin to Spin Gold for Treasury

WASHINGTON

In a bold turnaround, President Obama announced during a press conference today that he is determined to turn the economy around.

"With this deficit and with our looming recession, the time cannot be more urgent," the President said. "That is why I have taken a step that the previous Administration deemed too 'radical.'"

The President then showed a picture of a funny-looking troll, who was working a spinning wheel.

"This," the President motioned, "Is the solution to all our problems."

Named Rumplestiltskin, this mythical creature is believed to spin straw into gold. The Treasury Department estimates that the troll could create up to $3 trillion for the federal budget this year alone.

"It's really an efficient idea," said Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, "We waste over 10,000 tons of straw each month. If these are spun into gold, hell, even silver, we're doing really well."

Critics have blasted the President's new plan, deeming it "unrealistic," "fanciful," and "mind-bogglingly stupid." They point out that Rumplestiltskin is a fiction character created to scare unruly children.

"Seriously," said Arizona Senator John McCain, "I lost to this guy?"

The Senator then walked out of the Senate Chambers and kicked a dog.

A Dangerous Precedent to Seize Business

The federal government is looking into a radical increase of powers, including the ability to seize privately-owned firms. This precedent would go far beyond the already-existing powers of the Treasury Department. The government is justifying this by declaring that if these companies fail, then the economy fails.

Such a justification is a dangerous increase of governmental powers. The Obama Administration is looking to have the Congress rubber-stamp this proposal. The ability to seize companies without due process is counter to precepts of the Constitution. This should additionally be approved by the Supreme Court in order to prove whether or not it is Constitutional.

One of the biggest problems with this legislation is that the government could use these powers to seize other business, potentially leading to an increase of socialization. This nationalization could cause the government to take over industries deemed "vital." How long until GM, Ford, or Winchester is owned by the government?

While the chances of this is unlikely over the next several years, giving the government the power to do this is a terrible experiment. And what about our energy supplies? What if the federal government decides to seize Exxon?

Caution is required at moments like this.

Why is Obama Nominating All of these Crooks? I Have an Answer

Now, not everyone that President Obama has nominated to his cabinet have been terrible people, but it appears that the new President seems to be lax with his personal judgment. He is picking the cadre that will guide executive policy for at least four years.

But for some reason, some of these people are just... off. Geithner, Richardson, and now Daschle are all ethically challenged. Only one of them (Geithner) really has the competence to make up for this flaw. And Nancy Killefer is also withdrawing. And Governor Napolitano of Arizona is unfit for the position of Head of the Department of Homeland Security.

Is President Obama an idiot? Or is his staff incompetent?

Far from it.

President Obama is nominating a bunch of people with checkered pasts. His staff is very good at finding out information and keeping it secret. What may be happening is that President Obama knows that these people, if chosen, would owe him for their position. In turn, they would be subservient to him personally, and not as much to their positions.

Much of his cabinet is now subservient to the President, solidifying his power base. No longer is the executive branch the President advised and assisted by his cabinet, but appears to be transforming into a chamber of nepotism and incompetence.

Even Hillary Clinton factors in. Obama sees her as enemy number one and took her out of her influential position in the Senate. Now, she can't work on her signature issues: health care and women's issues. President Obama is expecting some failures in foreign policy over the next few years. Expect Secretary of State Clinton to be blamed for these. Any successes will be due to 'President Obama's foresight.'

Pay attention, this guy is smarter than you want to believe.

Geithner A Good Choice, If Flawed

President Obama chose Timothy Geithner as the next treasury department head. This is a positive event due to his experience in the Federal Reserve and his relations with Wall Street. However, Geithner may not be able to fully exercise desired policies due to political pressure from the White House. Unfortunately, Geithner's not perfect on paying taxes, but his record is otherwise clear and his fault has been spoken for. More on his assignment:

Geithner has been the head of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York for the past six years and was a key participant in decisions made by the Bush administration to deal with the worst financial crisis to hit the country since the Great Depression.

All five of the "no" votes on the committee came from Republicans, including the top GOP member of the panel, Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa. Those voting no said that they did not believe Geithner had been candid in his answers on why he failed to pay Social Security and Medicare taxes. They said they viewed this as a serious error for an official who would head the agency that oversees the IRS.
