Obama "Ends the War on Terror"

The Washington Post is reporting that the new President has ended the War Against Terrorism. This comes as the United States has significantly curtailed terrorism around the world and has prevented an attack on the U.S.

This is not why the war is ending. It's ending because we've done too much. We've been too successful, and too unilateral. The Post, which appears to support the actions, summed it up perfectly:

President Obama yesterday eliminated the most controversial tools employed by his predecessor against terrorism suspects. With the stroke of his pen, he effectively declared an end to the "war on terror," as President George W. Bush had defined it, signaling to the world that the reach of the U.S. government in battling its enemies will not be limitless.

And the world includes the terrorists and dictators.

Castro: Did I Ever Tell You About How Great Obama Is?

Former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro is now on the record praising our new President. What does this say about the strongman and what does it say about the President. And what does this say about the American people?

His remarks were disclosed by Cristina Fernandez, Argentina’s President, who met the former Cuban leader during a four-day visit to the communist island.

Mrs Fernandez said: “Fidel believes in Obama. He told me he had followed the inauguration of Barack Obama very closely, that he had watched the inauguration on television all day.

“He had a very good perception of President Obama.”

The Argentine premier said Mr Castro called Mr Obama “a man who seems absolutely sincere, who believes strongly in his ideas and who hopefully can carry them out”.

Well, Cuba is saying good things about us. That's change. I'll give the President the benefit of the doubt, especially considering he didn't go out and seek Castro's good graces. But this is still not necessarily a good sign.

In Defense of Obama

Now, I didn't vote for Obama. I didn't want him to become the next President. The chances of my voting for him are relatively low. However, he will be my President.

And I'm reading such terrible things as this: that people are threatening the President-Elect? Now you can say you won't vote for someone, but this is ridiculous. To threaten a man's life who hasn't done anything to hurt people is horrific. Keep in mind that he has two young children. I know I've been critical of the man, but to go from civil discourse to threatening violence is exactly what America isn't.

In addition, there's talk of an Obama dictatorship? Please... if the guy has despotic plans, he has yet to expose them. When he bans guns... okay, he might want to be crowned emperor.

I hope that Republicans do not fall prey to simplistic hatred. This is the exact thing which has stonewalled and damaged President Bush. This blind hatred, combined with stupidity has led to inane statements like, "There were no WMDs" and how things were better under our handsome friend Saddam.

So let Obama take office before becoming too critical. And thoughts of violence are not only unfounded, but irrational.

Obama Dictatorship?

This statement alone is a bit nuts. I mean, I don't agree with the President-Elect on some things, but to propose that he is building a dictatorship is a little wacko.

LGF has begun to call this movement, 'black helicopter Republicans.' I don't know if people have been listening to too much Coast to Coast or what, but we need to be careful that we don't go off the deep end.

And this is just the beginning. There hasn't even been any crises or anything to test Obama yet. Does this mean that we'll lose it when something does happen? As far as I can tell, there is not an American dictatorship on the horizon.

In case anyone wants to know how I see a dictatorship happening, here are some steps:

1. one branch of the government taking over one or two of the others
2. taking away of guns
3. taking away of other rights, like assembly
4. oh shit
