Chart of the Day - Deficits With & Without Iraq War.

What does this chart from the American Thinker tell us?

1. The 7 year Iraqi War never really impacted our National Deficit.

2. Deficit spending under President Bush decreased 50% in 5 years.

3. Congressional Democrats ballooned the Deficit in just 3 Budget's.

4. Bush's Tax cuts almost balanced the budget, despite big spending.

We all know that President Bush was a spender, and that the Republican controlled Congress was more inclined to go along with his spending. But as you can clearly see in the chart above: That spending was not really impacting the deficit, Bush's tax cuts were filling the coffers of the federal government, and if it wasn't for Clinton's failed housing scheme, America would probably be in solid fiscal health at this moment.

What say you?

P.S. - You can tell Bush's tax cuts were filling the federal government's coffers by taking into account the increased spending, yet the decreasing deficit.

Newsweek: Gee, Maybe We Should Raise Taxes

Another one of President Obama's sycophants in the press is saying that the United States should perhaps enter into large tax increases to counteract the growing deficit.

How big a tax increase would be needed to close the gap? Well, huge. To put things in perspective, all federal taxes (income, payroll, and excise) averaged 18.1 percent of GDP from 1970 to 2009. Under CBO's assumptions about Obama's policies, taxes in 2020 would already be slightly higher, at 19.6 percent of GDP. But on top of that, there'd need to be a further tax boost approaching a third to balance the budget, because spending is projected at 25.2 percent of GDP. Needless to say, this would be the largest tax burden in U.S. history, even including World War II.

Although there's one interesting point. They portray the deficit as under 'President Obama's policies.' I guess it's not Bush's fault for ObamaCare spending and union handouts-- unless he's really engineering things from behind the scenes to discredit the current president.

Obama spells out plan to combat joblessness: Again?

Obama spells out plan to combat joblessness
President says U.S. still must spend its way out of recession

The headline says it all; “we must spend our way out of recession”. Never mind the fact that this flies in the face of logic. Straddling the U.S. economy with trillions of dollars in debt is a sure recipe for disaster not recovery.

With bailouts and stimulus mark I behind and cap and trade along with health care looming on the horizon it seems that this administration is dead set on destroying this economy; and the country along with it.

Besides the crippling debt that these programs have created conspicuously lacking are the promised jobs. The first stimulus was billed as a job creation bill and has failed miserably to deliver. Unemployment rates have skyrocketed to near historic levels and the administration continues to blame Republicans instead of acknowledging the egregious error that was the stimulus bill.

Rather than accept his mistakes and learn from them Obama has seen fit to trudge forward on this track of national homicide. While simultaneously ignoring the facts and shifting the blame Obama is content to cling to insignificant indicators of economic recovery while riding the tsunami of inflation and unemployment into the cliffs.

The question that remains unanswered is this; is it simply incompetence or a well thought out and organized attempt to remake this country into a liberal/socialist utopia?

The jury is deliberating but the answer will soon be irrelevant. Quickly enough the question of incompetence or malfeasance will be replaced with laments of “how could this happen in America”. By then finger pointing and political pandering will be replaced with simple issues of survival as the country we have come to love disappears amidst the fallout.

The following story from MSNBC (originally posted on December 08 2009) serves to illuminate just how disconnected Obama has become:

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama outlined major new government stimulus and jobs proposals on Tuesday, saying the nation must continue to "spend our way out of this recession."

Without giving a price tag, Obama proposed a package of new spending for highway, bridge and other infrastructure projects, deeper tax breaks for small businesses and tax incentives to encourage people to make their homes more energy efficient.

This is the same billing that was given to the first stimulus bill. We have seen no jobs created and millions lost. Businesses have struggled and shovel ready projects have faded into the ether. The one question that should be on the tongues of every voting American is this; why should we believe you this time?

"We avoided the depression many feared," Obama said in a speech at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank. But, he added, "Our work is far from done."

For the third time in a week, Obama sought to focus on job creation, noting that the jobless rate continues in double digits and that "a staggering" 7 million Americans have lost jobs since the recession began in December 2007.

“A staggering” 7 million Americans have lost jobs since December 2007; this is the best argument against another stimulus and it comes from the mouth of the president himself.

While his proposal did not include the kind of direct federal public works jobs that were created in the 1930s, he said government could set the stage for more job creation by private businesses.

To this end Obama would be better served to cut the taxes on small businesses and relax regulations. Obama speaks from both sides of his mouth and to disparate ends. From one side he claims to want to create jobs and help small businesses by deficit spending; from the other side he advocates programs like cap and trade that will cripple most businesses and skyrocket energy costs.

Obama did not characterize his proposals as another stimulus program, like the $787 billion version passed earlier this year, but Republican critics have called it just that and have said it will increase a federal deficit that is already at a record level.

Sharp barbs for GOP

Obama included sharp criticism for Republicans in his speech, accusing them of opposing economic stimulus efforts and his health care overhaul while supporting tax cuts and spending that have ballooned the deficit.

This is one of the most insulting statements to recently escape Obama’s mouth. The republicans are certainly not blameless in this fiasco but Obama’s first year spending alone is enough to make a drunken sailor look frugal. Republicans may have ballooned the deficit but Obama has flat busted it.

He said that soon after taking office, he and congressional Democrats took "a series of difficult steps" to try to stabilize the financial system and pull the economy out of a deep recession.

"And we were forced to take those steps largely without the help of an opposition party which, unfortunately, after having presided over the decision-making that led to the crisis, decided to hand it to others to solve."

This discounts, disingenuously, the fact that Republicans have offered alternatives to each and every proposal forwarded by liberals. The fact is this administration has an agenda. They have no intention of squandering majorities in the House and Senate.

Obama did not say how much his proposals would cost, although congressional Democrats are eyeing a $70 billion package to help create jobs and to provide aid to hard-pressed state and local governments. Administration aides suggested that the part of the package dealing with roads, bridges and other infrastructure could total about $50 billion.

If it could not be done with $787 billion what difference is another $70 billions going to make? This is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to fund a few more items on the liberal wish list.

While acknowledging increasing concerns in Congress and among the public over the nation's growing debt, Obama said critics present a "false choice" between paying down deficits and investing in job creation and economic growth.

It is not a false choice as characterized by Obama. The truth is that sooner or later all of this debt will have to be paid. Sooner or later inflation will rear its ugly head and derail any burgeoning recovery. Sooner or later taxes will have to be raised to cover the spending short falls.

The federal budget is no different, except in size, than your household budget. The average person can survive on credit (deficit spending) for a while; but eventually all those bills and interest payments are going to sap every penny of discretionary spending and then critical spending. We are, as a nation, quickly approaching that tipping point. If Obama continues to spend as if the treasury were a bottomless pit our economy will collapse.

To pay for the new programs, the administration is citing the Treasury Department's report on Monday that it expects to get back $200 billion in taxpayer-approved bank bailout funds faster than expected.

Obama suggested this windfall would both help the government spend money on job creation while also paying down the nation's $12 trillion debt.

We should all cringe when the government refers to taxpayer money as a government “windfall”. This is our money and it should be returned to those who earned it; not those who would squander it

Obama to Sell B-2 Bomber Blueprints to China to Pay Off Debt

B-2 Plans for Sale?
Richard Hogarty
Boston Reviewer
June 1, 2009

Record deficits and a crashing economy appear to be taking a toll on the young Barack Obama Administration. The Administration has been talking about hiking income taxes and perhaps instituting a VAT tax.

China is also concerned with the mounting deficits in the United States budget. China is the single biggest holder of US Treasury Bonds and is one of Washington's biggest trading partners. The People's Republic has had a burgeoning economy, but is increasingly wary of the falling US dollar.

While the exact amount of Chinese ownership of US treasuries is unknown, it is estimated to add up to over a trillion dollars. If China were to call in US guarantees on these bonds, economists fear it could lead to an economic collapse larger than the Great Depression.

China has recently expanded its defense budget, ostensibly to keep up with its economic growth. China is reportedly working on its own version of a stealth bomber (the US has the only functioning model) but is lagged by technological defects.

On April 1st, President Obama spoke to Chinese Premier Hu Jintao during the G20 Summit. During this meeting, Mr. Hu expressed interest in writing off some of the US debt in exchange for military technology. The President has since referred the matter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

The Defense Department is reportedly furious with the President's proposal to sell blueprints of the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber to the People's Republic. Gates has flatly rejected the President's plan, but has since been asked to step down if he will not facilitate the process.

According to the deal, the United States would sell the plans for the B-2, along with radar-absorbing paints and metals in exchange for $50 billion in debt relief. The B-2 cost the US government $23 billion to develop the bomber in the 1980s.

According to the Administration, this proposal will help the United States resolve its debt issues. They point out their belief that the B-2 bomber is "strategically obsolete", according to a source in the White House Press Office. In addition, the source claims that the Chinese would be unable to create their own functioning stealth bomber fleet for "at least eight years."

American allies Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea are very wary of the proposal. Koo Syi, a geopolitical analyst from South Korea, points out that this technology could be passed to China's allies. This was the case when Chinese nuclear technology was transferred to Pakistan and North Korea. According to Koo, Obama has rendered US allies' opinions as "irrelevant."

While this proposal is controversial, it is not being presented to Congress, where it could meet with stern opposition. Instead, the State Department has been informed to assist the Defense Department with the transfer of materials.

Biden Takes Second Job at Applebee's to Help Reduce Deficit

Michele Chang
Conservative News and Reporting
'News for the Rest of Us'

WASHINGTON- Exclusive
Vice President Joseph Biden has been spied working a second job at an Arlington, VA Applebee's. This incredible information comes as the Vice President is attempting to help bridge the nation's budget deficit by bringing in $9.30 an hour plus tips.

"I know that all of us, all Americans are struggling." said Biden in a phone interview, "And I knew that I had to do my part to help us. That's why I work double-shifts six days a week here, acting as both a short-order cook and a waiter."

The Vice President took the job after the 2009 federal deficit was estimated at $1.75 trillion dollars. Biden's work at the restaurant is estimated to reduce that deficit by almost $300 per week.

Other members of the Washington establishment are working to do their parts. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been mopping floors at the Pentagon, while Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) has been advising the ACLU.

"This is a great idea," said Biden, "'Cause I'm a great guy. Stuff I'm learning here I'm going to use at the White House. Look out, America."

Biden also stated that he can now make "one mean grilled-cheese sandwich."

4 trillion dollar budget.

I write an article every day during the work week, I cover every political topic from the Conservative perspective that I can, sometimes I have so many topics - but so few articles to articulate my feelings. One subject I have not been able to discuss is Obama's 4 trillion dollar budget! This budget includes massive tax raises, massive tax reduction cut (like, you use to get a tax reduction if you donated to charity, not anymore!), government run healthcare clauses, etc. You name the Democrat drool bucket of all they have wanted, its in there.

Not only is this wrong on so many levels, but spending 4 trillion dollars during a horrible economic recession is just stupid in itself! Spending does not resolve recessions! THEY EXTEND THEM! The Congressional Budget Office, admitted that it would have been better if we did nothing instead of passing the massive pork spending act of 2009.

It just tears me up inside.

Question : When will Obama stop blaming Bush for all of our problems?
Followup question : How much into the term, will this finally become the Obama recession?
One last question : When can cartoonists, columnists, and jokers of all shorts - be able to finally make fun of Obama because of his idiotic economic decisions, without being called "RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACISTS!"

Should Obama Give Up Salary?

It is often said that every dollar counts in dealing with the financial woes of the nation. Congressmen, Senators, and the President all make good amounts of money, costing us millions each year.

President Obama makes $400,00 each year and Vice President Biden makes over $200,000 annually. This adds up to over $600,000 a year. Or better yet, $4.8 million over eight years. Both men are wealthy and both men will be able to do expensive speaking roles after their time in the White House is up. Why not work on a salary of $1 a year.

And Congress should follow the example. Many in Congress are very wealthy and many are millionaires. If all 535 members of Congress gave up their salaries and expense accounts then we would save over $50 million a year. If a Congressman makes less than $100 k a year without his current role, he can keep his pay. However, if they has more than $10 million in the bank, let them do the patriotic thing and donate it back to the country.

With the $4.8 million dollars we could make from the President and VP giving up their salaries, we could give a $10,000 credit to 480 people buying hybrids. Or we could put that money towards a gasoline refinery owned by the government. Or we could put that money towards building schools in poor neighborhoods.

If the President feels that the crisis is so bad, let him lead by example. Email this to him and to anyone else that would send this to him and the Vice President and their Congressman. It's about time we get better.
