Dem Envisages 25% Drop in Defense Spending

Congressman Barney Frank of Massachusetts and a staunch backer of Senator Barack Obama has
stated the following:
In a meeting with the editorial board of The Standard-Times, Rep. Frank, D-Mass., also called for a 25 percent cut in military spending, saying the Pentagon has to start choosing from its many weapons programs, and that upper-income taxpayers are going to see an increase in what they are asked to pay.
This is in line with Obama's promise to cut back on new weapons systems such as missile defense and other similar projects. In a time of war and with major powers such as Russia and China gaining on our military strength, we need every advantage that we can get ahold of. Without additional missile defense shields, we are at risk from Iranian missiles. Without new technology, our battlefield advantage will be blunted. Worst of all, our deterrence factor will fall.
