Sarah Palin leads in Iowa?

According to a new poll from the Economist, Governor Sarah Palin is leading all other potential Republican candidates for the 2012 Presidential Election in Iowa, where the voting begins in early 2012. However, I don't believe the poll results for one second, because it just doesn't match up with reality.

2012 Presidential Election - Iowa Republican Caucuses:

Sarah Palin - 28%.
Mitt Romney - 18%.
Newt Gingrich - 17%.
Mike Huckabee - 13%.
Mitch Daniels - 4%.
Others - 4%.
Undecided - 17%

Just in case you forgot, the 2008 Iowa Republican Caucuses:

Mike Huckabee - 34%.
Mitt Romney - 25%.
Thompson - 13%.
McCain - 13%.
Paul - 10%.

Are we really to believe that Mike Huckabee has lost over 60% of his 2008 Republican support, while he constantly leads the polls against Barack Obama in most surveys? And what about the Moderate Mitt Romney: he's lost close to 30% of his 2008 Republican support, without picking up one percentage of McCain's 2008 Moderate vote? Come on.

These polling results are absolute crap. There's no way on earth that Sarah Palin can win social conservatives against Mike Huckabee, a former Baptist minister for over a decade. Absolutely no way in hell.

Also, the only vote I see going to Sarah Palin in 2012 is Ron Paul's 2008 vote.

Grassley in Comfortable Lead in IA

Democrats would like to retire long-time Republican Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa. Considering that the mostly rural state flipped to Barack Obama's column in 2008, it was not out of the realm of possibilities. However, a new Rasmussen poll has Grassley ahead by double digits.

Grassley's above 50% and his Democratic rival doesn't even reach 40%. Good news all around.

Is Obama screwed for 2012?

The 2008 United States Presidential Election went like this:

Florida

Obama - 4,282,074 - 50.92% - 27 Electoral Votes.
McCain - 4,045,624 - 48.10% - 0 Electoral Votes.

A recent June 2010 Quinnipiac Poll sampling of 1,133 Floridians:

Obama Job Performance

Disapprove - 54% - 91% of GOP, 50% of Ind, and 14% of Dem.
Approve - 40% - 81% of Dem, 43% of Ind, and 6% of GOP.

President Barack Obama won Florida with a cushion of just 236,000 votes, or by a margin of 1.8 percentage points. And now a recent poll from a respectable polling firm has his numbers in one of the most important states at 40%. For someone who faces the voters again in 29 months; a 40% approval rating is a bad sign of worse things to come.

Imagine if these polling numbers reflect voters from across the Nation? Obama won the state of North Carolina by 14,000 votes; the state of Indiana by 29,000 votes; the state of Nevada by 120,000 votes; the state of Iowa by 140,000 voters; the state of Virginia by 230,00 votes; the state of Ohio by 260,000 votes; and he lost in Missouri by only 4,000 votes.

Losing 10% support in all of the above mentioned states would cause such a overturn of voters that it might not matter who Republicans select to be their Presidential nominee; just as long as a Republican is on the ballot. Period.

Memo to all perspective candidates for the Republican Nomination: All you need to do to win the 2012 Presidential Election is to flip about 1,056,000 votes in the seven above mentioned states, which in turn will result in 98 Electoral Votes going into our column, leaving us the victors in 2012.

Republicans Up Big in Iowa

It looks like the year of the Republican may have spread to Iowa, as well. Two Republicans are leading in this year's contests for Senator and Governor. Incumbent Senator Chuck Grassley is well in the lead for his reelection bid while former governor Terry Branstad leads current governor Chet Culver.

Good News as Gay Marriage is Spreading

Legal gay marriage is spreading amongst the 50 states, which will hopefully lead to a federal allowance for the practice. Now in Vermont and Iowa, along with Massachusetts and Connecticut, gay marriage is finally legal.

In 2000, Vermont initiated civil unions in the United States. Three years later, Massachusetts sanctioned gay marriage, as did Connecticut last October. So the events in Iowa and Vermont were bricks laid upon an already tested foundation.

It's about time. Hopefully Congress or the Supreme Court will allow the practice nationwide.

Man of The Hour Beats Girlfriend Over Video Games

Sometimes relationships are not for everyone, including Isac Pettinger of Des Moine. His girlfriend stepped in front of his television, causing his video game character to die. Then he chose the mature route and beat her:

Lacey Proctor, a 20-year-old massage therapy student, "reported that she was assaulted tonight (Monday) by her former live-in boyfriend, Isac Pettinger. Proctor said they had lived together at 1221 E. 28th St., until approximately a month ago when she moved out. Proctor said that tonight Pettinger invited her over to the house so that they could spend some time together.

"Proctor said she became frustrated with Pettinger as he would not stop playing video games. Proctor said she stood in front of Pettinger, blocking his view of the screen. At that point Pettinger's video game character died and he became very angry."

Police said he pushed her into a chair and straddled her, preventing her from getting up. He allegedly punched her in the side of the head with a closed fist. The victim yelled for him to get off but he refused.

She eventually escaped ran to a bathroom, police said. Pettinger reportedly followed her and attacked her again, beating her head against a wall. When she tried to get away, Pettinger allegedly said, 'You're not going anywhere."

Proctor reached for a cell phone and called 911. Police said Pettinger grabbed the phone and disconnected it. He called her a "cop-calling (expletive deleted)."
