Rand Paul Down in New Poll

Republican Rand Paul has fallen behind Democrat Jack Conway in the Kentucky Senate race. This comes after Paul's dramatic victory over the Attorney General. Rand Paul's libertarian views appear to be dragging down his poll numbers as the latest poll shows:

Conway (D): 41.7%
Paul (R): 41.2%
Und/other: 17.1%

Notice the large amounts of undecided voters this close to election day. That's a very bad sign for Paul that voters in a GOP-leaning state are still considering whether or not they want to vote for Paul. Note that the poll wasn't by Rasmussen, so the poll might be a little off. Still, it could complicate the Republican Party's plan to take back the Senate.

12 Republicans voted against Afghanistan War Funding Bill.

The House of Representatives voted on and passed the much needed Afghanistan War funding bill last night by a vote of 308-114. A majority of the opposition came from a divided Democratic Caucus, but 12 members of the usually neo-Conservative Republican Caucus voted against the essential war funding legislation.

This should no longer come as a surprise to me, but it is just so damn awful that members of our own Caucus, the true representatives of the American soldier, stand against our humble soldiers, and our Wars on Terror.

Here's the list of Republicans that need to go:

Congressman Broun (Georgia).
Congressman Campbell (California).
Congressman Chaffetz (Utah).
Congressman Duncan (Tennessee).
Congressman Ehlers (Michigan).
Congressman Flake (Arizona).
Congressman Gingrey (Georgia).
Congressman Jones (N. Carolina).
Congressman Johnson (Illinois).
Congressman Linder (Georgia).
Congressman Paul (Texas).
Congressman Rohrabacher (California).

This is the reason I'm fearful of a United States Senate with Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Ken Buck and Sharron Angle, in addition to Senator's Coburn and DeMint. Once we regain control of Congress, and say we have to expand the War on Terrorism into Pakistan or Yemen, will we have enough of our own Representatives and Senator's on the right side?

That's the question that leaves me awake at night.

What say you?

Rand Paul Tied in KY Poll

Don't say we didn't warn you.

If Trey Greyson was on the top of this poll, he'd likely be winning by 10% or more. However, since the primary voters in kentucky overwhelmingly chose Paul, they're looking at a tough, unnecessary slog. According to a PPP poll, which tends to lean Democratic, both Paul and his opponent, Jack Conway carry an equal amount of support.

Paul (R): 43%
Conway (D): 43%
Und/Other: 14%

Furthermore, Paul's negatives are above 40%, which is dangerously high for a non-incumbent. In the short amount of time from the primaries to today, Paul seems to have alienated many Democrats and Republicans alike-- pushing people to come out to vote against him.

Paul is far away from the 50% he needs to sew up this race. Kentucky is a deep red state in a GOP year. Normally, a Republican candidate would be sweeping the floor, but Paul and his outlandishly dumb statements may hand a seat to the Democrats-- exactly what we don't need.

A Strategy for Rand Paul

Rand Paul, who recently won Kentucky's Republican nomination for Senate, cancelled his scheduled interview on Meet the Press yesterday. This comes after Rand Paul expressed doubts about whether he would have supported the 1964 Civil Rights Act because of governmental incursions into private businesses.

Once again, Rand Paul is making the GOP look bad. Regardless of what his other qualities are, Paul's gaffe concerning the Civil Rights Act and the damage control that has ensued is badly hurting Republicans. As I write, Chris Matthews is devoting an entire segment on his show about how the GOP looks horrible because of Paul's actions.

The point of the matter is that Paul should have never have made these comments about the Civil Rights Act. However, since he did, he has to face the music. Hiding from the media and allowing them to mischaracterize the GOP and him cannot be allowed.

Rand Paul needs to step up and answer to what he said. What he needs to do is participate in all the interviews that he has scheduled and explain why he said what he said. The fact that he has not makes it almost seem that he cannot. The thing is, if this whole thing is what Paul wants us to think, that it was a simple misunderstanding of his opinion, than he should be able to explain it away.

Rand Paul Dragging the GOP Down

I know that this may piss off a lot of our readers, but it has to be said. From the second that Rand Paul won the nomination, he has begun dragging down every national GOP candidate running for Congress or Senate this year. Crazy, you say? Look at what's begun.

1. He's painting us as racists.

I realize that he said he only had problems with one of the ten provisions of the Civil Rights Act, but it was still idiotic. I understand that in a utopian society the government would not ever have to defend people against racism. However, it is unconscionable to say that a restaurant can legally deny someone service on account of race.

I know he's not a racist, but his moronic statements will make us look like racists.... especially when the left-wing media starts conflating his crackpot theories with other Republicans.

2. He's a RINO.

For all of the criticism of John McCain over the years, he's been a very good spending hawk and excellent on foreign policy. Paul is neither of these. I know he'll say that he's the best spending hawk there is, but in a situation where spending will not be cut by a Democratic Congress, he will stand for higher taxation in order to meet the budget deficit. Raising taxes to reduce the deficit will only encourage more spending by the Dems, even if Paul stands against it. He's also ridiculous on foreign policy, against many of the provisions which are keeping us safe from jihadists. He's against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and his non-interventionism is worse than Carter's. So if you go by a 'purity test' he's more of a RINO than Lindsey Graham.

If you asked Paul if he was a Republican first or a libertarian first, he would say libertarian. He would also say that he's mainly a Republican because he knows a big-L Libertarian can't win at the ballot box. That is the definition of a RINO.

3. He's Using Obama's Talking Points

Last year Democratic leader Steny Hoyer penned a USA Today article calling people criticizing the health care efforts as "un-American." Just today Rand Paul said that President Obama criticizing BP was "un-American." To call Obama incompetent is one thing, but "un-American" is absolutely mentally handicapped.

This guy is not a Republican. He's a hard-core libertarian posing as one. For all of the talk of tossing RINOs, throw one out for a change instead of attacking mainstreamers like Bennett and McCain.

Primary Day Review - May 18, 2010.

For all Conservative minded individuals; yesterday was pure hell watching the Pennsylvania and Kentucky Primaries, along with that special election in Pennsylvania's 12th district, which in the end proves that voters are still naive. There was little good news, but much heartache:

Kentucky

Rand Paul; the son of Congressman Ron Paul, whom I despise with a passion, defeated the Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson by 80,000 votes last night, receiving the GOP Nomination on a campaign that ran against the GOP platform on National Defense, and on Libertarian beliefs. This nomination will only help the Democrat candidate in November.

I would rather lose this seat in November, than to see this Isolationist dirtbag in Congress, or anywhere near there.

Pennsylvania

Pat Toomey had one definite path to victory: Senator Arlen Specter winning the Democratic Nomination. But that didn't happen last night - Congressman Sestak received the nomination without much problem, and the electoral chances of Pat Toomey are complicated for this November.

Pat Toomey will do a fine job campaigning against Joe Sestak, and with Senator Specter no longer in contention, the Republican vote should go to Toomey's campaign without problem, however, without having the "flip flopping" king of Pennsylvania as his opponent, things will become difficult.

Pennsylvania's 12th district

Mark Critz (D) - 71,684 - 53.4%
Tim Burns (R) - 59,476 - 44.3%
Demo Agoris (L) - 3,142 - 2.3%

Must I say more? Like Doug Hoffman, David Harmer, and James Tedisco before him, Tim Burns has lost with the complete backing of Conservative blogs and organizations. Momentum might be behind Republicans, but I just don't see it yet, especially in a district that John McCain won with ease in 2008.

Arkansas

Good news: Neither Senator Lincoln nor Lt. Governor Bill Halter received enough votes for the Democrat nomination last evening. Forcing the Democratic dogfight to continue for at least a few more weeks.

Great news: Congressman John Boozman was selected as the Republican Nominee with 53% of the vote. He's performing well against both his potential Democratic opponents in general election polls. For Arkansas Republicans this is excellent news, and should be celebrated.

Overall

Kentucky - We're screwed.
Pennsylvania - Tough general election upcoming.
Pennsylvania 12 - Naive Democratic addicts.
Arkansas - Good and Great news.

Vote in Our Poll: Trey Grayson or Rand Paul for the GOP Nod?

So what do you think?

Kentucky Republican Primaries Tomorrow.

Kentucky Republicans will be selecting their preferred candidates tomorrow afternoon in one Senatorial election and in two Congressional elections (3rd and 6th districts). While most are focusing on the Grayson vs. Rand battle (I support Grayson), Republicans in the sixth district must get out and vote; their congressional district is R+9, and should be in Republican control.

Please keep in mind that I'm a Conservative Republican, and that I will endorse a candidate who can win, even if he or she is not a 100% down-the-line Conservative.

These are my endorsements:

Senatorial - Trey Grayson.
1st congressional - Congressman Whitfield.
2nd congressional - Congressman Guthrie.
3rd congressional - Todd Lally.
4th congressional - Congressman Davis.
5th congressional - Congressman Rogers.
6th congressional - Andy Barr.

Regardless of who you support in tomorrow's Primary elections, please remember to vote my fellow Republicans!
