Olbermann is Today's McCarthy

Joe McCarthy, a bumbling drunkard who happened to be elected to the United States Senate by the people of Minnesota, has become vilified for his overarching accusations and paranoid "sightings" of Communists in the 1950s. Meanwhile, these accusations rarely panned out, and McCarthy's own incompetence and mean-spirited attack on American politics has been roundly criticized.

Meanwhile, in 2009, we are looking at a similar situation. As with McCarthy, we have a person of national prominence willing to call others unpatriotic or just plain dumb if they disagree with Olbermann's bitter world view.

Instead of Communists, today's blacklist is of "Neo-Conservatives." And these 'terrible' people are on top of Olbermann's hate list, obscuring other stories for his fake scandal coverage.

Take in 2006, when the start of the Israel-Hezbollah war was covered by all the major news outlets. On Oblermann's show, he attempted to propagate a line about a new Bush scandal instead of covering the news of the day. And naturally, he was wrong.

What about in 2008, when Olbermann attempted to play off John McCain as a diligent helper of al Qaeda (take a look at the link for full context):

If you`d like this country to go into business with al Qaeda, George Bush and John McCain, they`re your guys.

Recently when David Letterman launched a stale and unfunny "joke" at Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, Olbermann did well to attack the one who was victimized, and defended Letterman:

This after Letterman not only apologized Wednesday on air for a joke he had delivered on Monday about the Palin family`s trip to New York City, but also continued to take the high road in the face of repeated attacks by a politician so power crazed she is again using her own daughters to try to earn political capital.

Now if O'Reilly (or as Olbermann calls him 'Billo') had said the exact same joke, but substituted one of the President's daughter's names, he would have been outraged. He would have stepped on his soap-box and shouted in his deepest, manliest chatter that O'Reilly should "resign."

And of course who is Olbermann's choice for the most dangerous organization to American survival? North Korea, Iran, or al Qaeda? Maybe neo-Nazis or aliens? No, Rupert Murdoch and Fox:

Al Qaeda really hurt us, but not as much as Rupert Murdoch has hurt us, particularly in the case of Fox News. Fox News is worse than Al Qaeda--worse for our society. It's as dangerous as the Ku Klux Klan ever was.

And of course, Olbermann does what McCarthy did best, which is to attack the straw man. He doesn't have opposing views on his show, but instead places ideological lackies or clueless stooges on (who often disagree with Olbermann's outlandish idiocy.) Olbermann is very good at shouting at people who are not in the room (or not on his show) and making believe that he can take the moral high ground. Instead, he is simply full of an ego borne out of not being challenged and his comfy contract from MSNBC.

So let's get down to the crux of the matter? Why is Olbermann often such a douche? Why does he often go on tirades which are often nonsensical and almost fantastic? Simple. He was fired by FOX before he came to MSNBC and is bitter about it. How can FOXNews put BILL O'REILLY in his precious spot, that ignorant hack? So Olby decides he'll attack what his former bosses love, which is a right-leaning point of view. And Keith couldn't just do it with simple, you know, facts, he just has to start pointing out random things and making believe in all makes sense.

Olbermann's obsessive habit of shouting baseless claims against his political enemies in the hope of forcing them to resign or slink away in shame is almost a carbon copy of McCarthy's cowardly attacks in the 1950s.

Olbermann is a faux bully, attempting to fill in his lack of substantive thought with saying things extra loud. And so, Mr. McCarthy (a Republican, which would make Keith real happy), I mean Keith,

Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?
