I've been reading about folks arguing whether or not Obama has a mandate from the American people. The measure I've been using is whether or not a candidate gets over 50% of the popular vote.
So yes, George W. Bush had one in 2004 and Barack Obama has one now in 2008. I know that a lot of the votes were people who probably didn't know enough to vote (college kids) did, but Obama still polled well among the population as a whole.
I'm not saying that I agree with his measures, but I realize that the Democrats are going to feel entitled for change, and if we're going to oppose it, we might as well realize it.
