RUSTY: Would you make the birth certificate an issue if you ran?
SARAH: I think the public, rightfully, is still making it an issue. I don’t have a problem with that. I don’t know if I would have to bother to make it an issue ’cause I think there are enough members of the electorate who still want answers.
RUSTY: Do you think it’s a fair question to be looking at?
SARAH: I think it’s a fair question, just like I think past associations and past voting record — all of that is fair game. You know, I’ve got to tell you, too: I think our campaign, the McCain/Palin campaign didn’t do a good enough job in that area. We didn’t call out Obama and some of his associates on their records and what their beliefs were and perhaps what their future plans were. And I don’t think that that was fair to voters to not have done our jobs as candidates and as a campaign to bring to light a lot of the things that now we’re seeing made manifest in the administration.
RUSTY: I mean, truly, if your past is fair game and your kids are fair game, certainly Obama’s past should be. I mean, we want to treat men and women equally, right?
SARAH: Hey, you know, that’s a great point, in that weird conspiracy-theory freaky thing that people talk about that Trig isn’t my real son. And a lot of people say, “Well you need to produce his birth certificate! You need to prove that he’s your kid!” Which we have done. But yeah, so maybe we could reverse that and use the same [unintelligible]-type thinking on them.- http://libertarianrepublican.blogspot.com/2009/12/sarah-palin-says-obamas-place-of-birth.html
I believe the birther movement to be crazy, however, Palin does have a point - the nut job liberals who claimed Trig Palin was not the son of Sarah Palin, demanded proof from high hell, the Palin's released the proof, and yet their little pathetic theory never ends, why not use the same tactic against Obama? Liberals don't care about the truth or the consequences of their actions, perhaps that should be used against them.
Sarah Palin is not a birther, anyone who believes Sarah Palin is a birther, is a pinhead unlike Sarah Palin who is a patriot. After the initial comments, which has created a echo chamber across the blogosphere, Palin released a statement on Facebook, via Conservatives 4 Palin :
Voters have every right to ask candidates for information if they so choose. I’ve pointed out that it was seemingly fair game during the 2008 election for many on the left to badger my doctor and lawyer for proof that Trig is in fact my child. Conspiracy-minded reporters and voters had a right to ask... which they have repeatedly. But at no point – not during the campaign, and not during recent interviews – have I asked the president to produce his birth certificate or suggested that he was not born in the United States.

Sarah Palin is your average American who wants to debate the issues rather than idiotic theories, or promote the views of those who are pushing impeachment of Obama, after just ten months in office, proposing the same action against Obama, we screamed against when it was President Bush in office. Palin is above the theories, and is devoted to the truth.

She didn't just say the Obama birther question was "fair game." If that's all she said in the interview, one could simply chalk it up to encouragement of free speech, which is fine. That's what she's emphasizing in her subsequent comments.
But she also said that people were "rightfully" raising the issue. The only rational explanation for that is that she thinks the underlying issue has merit.
"I think the public, rightfully, is still making it an issue."
- Sarah Palin.
When I see the line, I think she means this - the American people have a right to know and to demand on such an issue. Because Obama is the Commander in Chief, and let us remember the liberals demanded the same thing of McCain.
It does not mean she believes in it, it means she believes the American people or a small group of Americans do have a right to demand answers from their officials, regardless of how idiotic.
