Focus, Merits, Performance.

President Barack Obama is wondering why American school children are not in schools 7 days a week, 10 hours a day, 365 days a year like in China and other Nations. The reason is because we are not China, and we are not other Nations.

American school children are in school over 180 days a year, 7 hours a day, usually 5 days a week, American school children whom are older usually hold jobs, and younger children need to be with their parents. We are America, we do not imprison children to be at the whims of the government & teachers unions, time with family is precious, and there are solutions which would probably decrease the time in school.

If American schools returned to the basics, of teaching Math, History & Geography, Science, English, American Civics, and time in the Gym, I believe American intellect would improve. As do you know why homeschooled children perform better then their public school counterparts, probably because they focus on the four main subjects and they are not indoctrinated by labor union teachers.

Instead, it appears that American classrooms are focusing on topics that are not as important, serve no real purpose, and would be best served as taught in the home. I would also argue that the process of securing graduation is not the best, especially in the state of New York, where instead of passing based on merits, you need dozens of credits to pass high school, which I believe puts to much priority in subjects which normally would be insignificant, but students deal with it to get the extra credits.

So, what are the suggestions of a Conservative Republican?

Simple.

Step one - Focus on the four main subjects, all other subjects come afterwards.

Step two - Graduation should be based on merits of the four main subjects, not credits from unnecessary courses.

Step three - Teachers should be based on merits as well, not union contracts.

Do additional courses have a place, Yes. Should those additional courses be apart of final graduation, No.

Focus must be put on the main four subjects, other courses should be open, however, they come after the main four subjects, and teachers should not be paid based on union contracts or demands, but rather on their merits as teachers, and the scores their students put forth. More time in school will not solve anything, it will only cause more problems, indoctrination, and families not being as close, more focus on merits, the four main subjects, and teachers based on performance, would improve the system.

These are just my opinions, consider this an open topic on the subject of education, what say you?
