I have been dumbfounded and dismayed at the news that Roman Polanski, who pleaded guilty of drugging, sodomizing, and raping a 13 year old girl back in the 1970s has such loyal supporters from Hollywood. I am equally surprised that the victim of this crime is asking that Polanski be exonerated.
Are these “stars,” including Woody Allen who I am not a fan of, in their right mind?
Is society or Hollywood Society in their right mind? Are they really asking that a person who has admitted and plead guilty to these charges be released just because time has elapsed or because Roman Polanski is a famous director? Can a person who drugs, rapes, and sodomizes a child be cured? I do not believe that that is possible.
I believe that society has to step up and do what is morally right. What is morally right is that we have to impose stricter punishments to those who purposefully harm our children. We have to protect our children from those who want to harm them. Those that are supporting Roman Polanski are slapping all past, current, and future victims in the face by such thoughtless acts of support. What is the message that they are trying to get out there; are they saying that child rape is okay? Are they saying that fame and money will overcome what is right? Does Hollywood care about our children? When so many children look up to famous people, when they use them as role models, is this the right message for them to listening too? Hollywood should not represent America's voice. Those in Hollywood who went so public in supporting Roman Polanski should not have, nor do they deserve one cent of our money. We the public, we in society made them who they are. We should also let them know when we are displeased with them as well. There is no room for negotiation when it comes to protecting our children from predators. Our children should feel safe. Our children should be safe.
I will talk to my children about this and explain that these inhuman acts are those of insignificant human beings.
I will personally boycott the films of any actor and/or director who are in support of Roman Polanski. I will keep my ears and eyes open to this. If you truly love your children you will take a stand also. Hit these actors and directors where it hurts: in their pockets. Do not allow this to pass as something that doesn't concern you. Do not allow yourself to be immune to the horrific acts of child rape. These are our children that we are talking about. This might be one case, but there are other children who have suffered in the same manner. If society doesn't take a stand on this issue there will be many more children who will suffer the same fate as this girl did. I want to make something clear here. Girls are not the only victims of child rape. Boys also suffer this fate.
I understand that the victim has survived this act, and is now willing to forgive Roman Polanski for what he has done to her. I have also heard that the victim also stated that she didn't want him prosecuted. I do not believe she thought this through or that there are other children, beside herself, that have been raped and that are still hurting, emotionally, physically, and spiritually from their ordeals.
I also would like to point out that the world is watching to see what America and its legal system will do in this matter. God help us, if this man should be free. God help us if this man is not extradited to the U.S. to be judged. My feeling is that if nothing is done to show the world that society does not condone such inhumane acts a Pandora's box of child molesters, sodomizers, and rapists will think that children are fair game. Not only in America but the world. With child pornography being so readily available in this day and age our children do not stand a chance.
So it's up to you America. What do you want? Do you want to turn a blind eye because this doesn't concern you or are you going to do the right thing and stand up to those who want to hurt our children?
I choose to take a stand.
