Obama College Thesis: 'Constitution is Inherently Flawed'

Obama Thesis Raises Doubts
Brian Lancaster

RELATED: Zodiac Killer case solved after 40 years.

President Barack Obama's college record has officially been under strict secrecy since his run for the White House began in 2007. This record includes two years at Occidental College in Los Angeles, two years at Columbia University, and finally at Harvard Law School.

-- Please donate to Soldiers' Angels--

During his time at these colleges, Obama gained notoriety for being an especially bright and hardworking student. At Harvard, he was later elected as the editor of the Harvard Law Review, which many observers see as the beginning of his political career.

However, many things regarding the future President's time at these colleges have remained private. Under order of the Obama campaign, all information not directly allowed published by Obama himself, is not to be disclosed to any media. These included grades, attendance records, rewards received, and papers submitted.

With all of the secrecy regarding the President's academic record, famed Time reporter Joe Klein looked into the records for an upcoming special edition about the President. Klein included several key points in the piece, including his grades and stellar letters of recommendation. However, what has leaked along with this information was the subject of a thesis written by the young Obama while still an undergraduate at Columbia.

A political science major, Obama was seen as a top student, according to his classmates. Professors even asked the young student to lecture several times. Obama was required to write a 'senior seminar' paper in order to graduate from Columbia. The subject of this paper, which totaled 44 pages, was American government. Entitled Aristocracy Reborn, this paper chronicled the long struggle of the working class against, as Obama put it, "plutocratic thugs with one hand on the money and the other on the government."

In the paper, in which only the first ten pages were given to the general media, Obama decries the plight of the poor: "I see poverty in every place I walk. In Los Angeles and New York, the poor reach to me with bleary eyes and all I can do is sigh."

In part, the future President blames this on the current economic system: "There are many who will defend the 'free market.' But who will defend the single mother of four working three jobs. When a system is allowed to be free at the expense of its citizens, then it is tyranny."

However, the President also singled out the American Constitution: "... the Constitution allows for many things, but what it does not allow is the most revealing. The so-called Founders did not allow for economic freedom. While political freedom is supposedly a cornerstone of the document, the distribution of wealth is not even mentioned. While many believed that the new Constitution gave them liberty, it instead fitted them with the shackles of hypocrisy."

It is yet unknown if more of this thesis will be released. It was also noted that the President received an A- for the paper, which later led to his graduation.

I have traditionally avoided conspiracy theories, but I am hard pressed to understand how the Manchild got elected, given the ample evidence littering his path that he was philosophically unsuitable to be a national leader. In other words, when an F-5 tornado goes along and the damage it has done goes unreported as it approaches your town, it will be difficult to convince people that a large number of the "watchers on the wall" didn't have it in for the town.

Ivy League universities are not good at getting students jobs, only grants to be commie nutty organizers. No business ever trusts such left wing graduates who don't believe in capitalism and become crooks because they are taught the only way business makes money is crooked so they seek to avenge their unemployability through their own crookedness. The universities consider real jobs and competition beneath them, so they want their little sissies to live off grants, even in the hard sciences or business. How many of their engineering professors have Professional Engineering certification? Almost none! They love foreign students because they slave up and don't expect professors to actually work for the tuition, like American students do. No middle class parent should consider sending their kids there, because these schools will destroy your entire family. The only schools that understand middle-class values are for-profits. Middle class parents foolish enought o buy into the Ivy League dream die way too young.

America is a Business. ANd the jest of it all, Obama does not know how to run this as a prospering business. This idea of "distribution of wealth" is a joke. Here's a man that barely donated $2000 to charities before election. He would be fired and replaced by any business with his track record. He should be removed from office on the sheer "destrution of economy/jobs" in America.

There is nothing on the Swampland Blog at all. I doubt Klein would publicize anything of the sort, anywhere: he is very protective of Mr. O.

Ledeen is holding in moderation all the comments asking for sourcing. So to me it looks like this is a "gotcha" based on the abuse of unsourced Limbaugh quotes.

Limbaugh, according to poster Abby Adams at Hot Air, is even talking about the "thesis" on air.

Nonsense
Posted by Joe Klein

A report is circulating among the wingnuts that I had a peek at Barack Obama's senior thesis. It is completely false. I've never seen Obama's thesis. I have no idea where this report comes from--but I can assure you that it's complete nonsense.

Update: Michael Ledeen now has apologized to me on his blog, claiming that he, Limbaugh and others were punked by a satire. I appreciate the apology...but I wonder about what the willingness to take this cheesy crap as gospel says about Ledeen's--and Boss Rush's--sensibility. Actually, on second thought, I don't wonder all that much.

Gary said...

As a fan of Rush and Ledeen, I'm disappointed that they'd run with this so uncritically. They both should have either verified this with Klein, or at least secured other independent knowledge that it was indeed true. But, on the other side, we all know how equally eagerly and uncritically vast swaths of the "real news" networks ran with the manufactured Limbaugh quotes.

But ...... they were uncharacteristic of Limbaugh. Limbaugh may say un-PC things about race, but they're largely aimed at those who use race as cover for advancing liberalism, not in a context that he personally has anything against someone just for having a different color of skin. I believe he was married by Clarence Thomas, or is that made up too?

On the other side of the coin, obviously the reason that this rang true for Rush and Ledeen was because they'd essentially heard it before, right from the horse's mouth:

"If you look at the victories and failures of the civil rights movement and its litigation strategy in the court, I think where it succeeded was to invest formal rights in previously dispossessed people, so that now I would have the right to vote. I would now be able to sit at the lunch counter and order and as long as I could pay for it I’d be OK.

But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society. To that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn't that radical. It didn't break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution, at least as it's been interpreted, and the Warren Court interpreted in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can't do to you. Says what the federal government can't do to you, but doesn't say what the federal government or state government must do on your behalf.

And that hasn't shifted and one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was because the civil rights movement became so court-focused I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that."
-- Barack Obama as State Senator

"At least as it's interpreted"?

Obama appears to be questioning the basic, correct and rather obvious interpretation of the constitution as being primarily a document spelling out the limitations, as opposed to the redistributive powers, of the Federal government.

Obama may not have written this "thesis", but he well could have, and it would come as no real surprise had he actually written such a thing.

I wish people critical of Obama (or Bush, for that matter, with the whole faked National Guard records) would talk substance rather than try to justify their use of false documents as being "true in spirit." And what's so bad about a thesis that talks about the needs of poor people? The country's constitution is a great document that has helped to protect many of our freedoms, but it's not holy scripture--it has its shortcomings as well. That's why there's something called amendments.

Anonymous said...

Gary, Obama (if did come from Obama) was pointing out that the civil rights movement failed to get the Supreme Court to address the three issues listed. Interpreting the Constitution is the primary job of the Supreme Court. The intent of the founding fathers is continually addressed and readdressed by the Court. A quote like the following sounds like it could come from any Constitutional Law professor: "At least as it's interpreted"? The Court would not need much of a job if the original intent was settled and no interpretation is needed. Go to law school and you'll begin to understand what I mean.

Bush lied, people died.

Of course, there's no proof Bush lied, but it doesn't stop the lunatic liberals.

oh yes because the answer to untruth is MORE untruth! Sweet Jesus! You conservatives claim to be the paragons of morality because you believe in Jesus and yet, you have no interest in truth? Look, the thesis does NOT exist. What's more, this idea that Obama claimed (correctly) that the Constitution contains 'negative' rights while true is *entirely* misunderstood by the conservatives (who appear to revere the Constitution without having read it).

Positive right: You have the right to do this
Negative right: Congress shall make no law prohibiting or abridiging this right.

The Constitution does not claim "you have the right to do X". It DOES state "Congress shall make no law..." or "The right to X shall not be abridged". THAT is what a negative right means.

OK, so here is the lowdown. My father was a professor at Columbia. Me and 6 of my brothers and sisters went to Columbia. I graduated from Columbia almost exactly at the same time as Obama, though I had no knowledge of him at the time. There is no senior thesis paper required for graduation from Columbia College. College papers are not saved and put in to the Columbia library, so don't waste your time looking for Obama's (or mine). Only PHD thesis are placed in the library.

As to the comment about companies not hiring graduates of Ivy League schools; Jack Reylan must not have been closer to an Ivy League school than I have been to a Palin rally. Big corporations from all over the world compete to get the top graduates from Ivy League schools. Many of the top people in Wall Street, and banks and manufacturing companies and consulting firms and law firms, etc. etc. come from Ivy League schools. There is no surer way of insuring a future in corporate America than an Ivy League dgree.

Oh, and did all of you posters realize that this entire articl was bogus. Obama never wrote the paper, nobody every read it (since it doesn't exist), nobody ever posted the first 10 pages of it (since it doesn't exist), there is no way to get Obama to release the papers he did write because Columbia never has saved undergraduate papers (I suppose it is possible that Obama saved the papers himself, but if he is like most college students I would strongly doubt that he saved undergrad papers).

Anonymous said...

This article says that Obama's college records are 'secret' and can only be reported by him. It then goes on to quote from those same 'protected','secret papers by Obama. So how could the quotes be considered accurate unless they come directly from the Presidents' writing's since the records were 'sealed'?
