Jim Joyce

Sigh. Watching Armando Galarraga pitching the ninth was one of the most tantalizing experiences I've ever gone through. The very first pitch of the inning was smacked deep into the left-center gap, but the center fielder made a Willie Mays-esque catch. The next batter grounded out weakly.

Two outs. No one on. Twenty-six retired consecutively. Slow ground ball. Cabrera fields. Great play, clearly out! But no! In what will certainly go down as one of the greatest umpiring blunders of all-time, Jim Joyce utterly blew the call. "Safe," he shouted to a stunned audience who began to boo in disbelief.

Live, the runner looked out. In slow-motion, it looked even worse. Jim Joyce blew the call and cost Armando Galarraga a perfect game that he rightfully deserved.

For the good of the sport, I believe MLB must over-turn the call and award Galarraga the perfect game. There is no excuse, and everyone, including Joyce himself, now admits that the runner was out. It would be an utter shame to see this horrific call stand.

The real question is, what do you think will happen to Jim Joyce? A fine? Will he resign? Will he get any more than a slap on the wrists??

There is no doubt in anybody's mind that the call was horrible and that Armando was robbed of the 21st perfect game in history..

I know the game is over but can MLB reverse the call and call it a perfect game? I mean it was obviously an out.

Even if they did so, as they probably should, it brings up instant replay in any end game situation and also doesn't give the person with the perfect game the same joy as doing it on the field.
