Sarah Palin : Conservatism or Libertarianism?

Governor Palin is no dunce, but her political endorsement of Rand Paul is and will remain stupid. Conservatism or Libertarianism will remain the question for Republicans heading into November, as our heart and soul is on the chopping block, as is our political future. Are we going to remain the political representatives of President Reagan or adopt the political beliefs of Senator Goldwater? That is the question we need to answer in the coming months, as we nominate our candidates and campaign in November for the victors.

I could ramble about social conservatism, but I would rather discuss National defense and how Governor Palin's endorsement of Rand Paul doesn't help America's National defense, but weakens it.

There is one fundamental difference between Conservatism and Libertarianism - National defense and America's role in the world. Conservatism stands for a strong National defense through all possible measures, Libertarianism stands on a strong National defense through Isolationism and "Civil Liberties". Conservatism holds the viewpoint that America is the largest bastion of freedom in the world and that it is our obligation to promote such freedom, Libertarianism holds the viewpoint that America is the largest bastion of freedom in the world, but we should sit on our freedom instead of promote it.

Conservatism follows the Constitutional obligation to provide for the protection of our homeland, while Libertarianism uses the Constitution to prohibit the protection of our homeland.

I could go on for hours listing the astounding differences between Conservatism and Libertarianism on National defense and America in general, however, it is time to examine the profound effect a Senator Rand Paul would have on our National defense as a nation, besides the fact our defenses would be weakened.

Senator Paul would be a vote against the Patriot Act. Senator Paul would be a vote against Warrantless Wiretaps. Senator Paul would be a vote against Enhanced Interrogations. Senator Paul would have voted against the War on Terrorism. Rand Paul has not announced a position on Israel, would his positions be the same as his father or the same as President Bush or Senator McCain? If there was a time where we needed to act in haste, would a Senator Paul support our efforts or hide behind the Constitution?

These are questions that need to be answered. Are we as Republicans and Conservatives going to support National defense at all costs or are we going to join the ranks of our Ideological cousins, and hide behind the Constitution on a reckless and dangerous platform of Isolationism? That is the question of the 2010 congressional elections, and Governor Palin has sided with a man who would've opposed the fundamental National defense legislation that has kept us safe and secure.

What's it going to be Governor Palin? Conservatism or Libertarianism, because you cannot have it both ways.

This blog is not even worthy of a response. I only hope the writer will decide to read a few books. You could start with a quote from Ronald Reagan,

"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals -- if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is." End of story.

Actually, you can. Have you never heard of the Reagan Coalition?

Excellent piece sir! Sarah Palin has disappointed me again for the second time. I thought she was a true conservative and it breaks my heart to say this because I really loved her but she isn't a real conservative after all. There is no way for her to justify backing a Rino left leaning Republican like McCain who is for Cap and Trade, Illegals getting amnesty and calling our CIA Water boarding torture. McCain is part of the problem with the Republican Party and so is Lindsey Graham. Sarah Palin will let many Conservatives down even more with this Rand Paul endorsement, including myself. I guess she isn't running in 2012, if she was she would have understood the Tea Party core principles by now. This is a big let down to all Palin supporters for sure.
